I’ve always admired how Disney Channel has nurtured some truly exceptional talents, and Cameron Boyce was undoubtedly one of them. His untimely death at the age of 20 due to complications from epilepsy in 2019 left many of us heartbroken. This past weekend marked six years since his passing, yet he remains deeply etched in our hearts. My belief is underscored by the heartfelt tributes penned by his co-stars from the “Descendants” series this very day, demonstrating that he’s far from forgotten.
On July 6, 2019, Cameron Boyce tragically passed away, and on the same day this year, Dove Cameron – a star from the Descendants series – paid tribute to her late co-star on Instagram. In the post, she shared an old photo with Boyce, Sofia Carson, and Booboo Stewart, all of whom were part of the Disney franchise. Dove expressed her condolences to Boyce’s family in the caption. You can take a look at the touching tribute below:

Previously, Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson have openly spoken about their friend’s demise, yet they’ve also looked back on their shared times together and the impact he made in his work. Similarly, Carson has mentioned Boyce’s passing while reminiscing about him fondly. On the anniversary of her friend’s death, Carson honored him by posting another group photo, presumably taken in a makeup room, as a tribute to the angelic young man she refers to as “our eternal angel.” Here it is:

In the post above, Booboo Stewart, a former cast member from Descendants, replied with a pair of eagle symbols. Moreover, Sarah Jeffrey, another Descendants alum, posted a picture on Sunday showing her and Boyce grinning as they spent time together, without any additional comments.

Fans of Cameron Boyce continue to remember the acting work he did, while his co-stars reminisce about their time with him. In the early stages of his career, Boyce starred in films like “Eagle Eye” and “Mirrors”, but it was his role as the charming troublemaker Luke Ross on Disney’s “Jessie” that really made an impact. This show ran for four seasons from 2011 to 2015.
Through a Disney+ subscription, you can watch the “Descendants” series franchise that significantly boosted Boyce’s fame on the Disney Channel. He portrayed Carlos, Cruella de Vil’s son, in the series’ first three movies and also appeared in other related media. The third movie debuted around the time of Boyce’s passing, although the red carpet premiere was canceled, the film still premiered and was dedicated to his memory.
Despite the fact that his acting roles continue to be fondly remembered, the legacy of the actor who once played in Mrs. Fletcher extends far beyond this. He was equally recognized for his charitable work, and his relatives have carried on this tradition. Following the star’s passing, his family established The Cameron Boyce Foundation, an organization that supports global research aimed at finding a cure for epilepsy and educates the public about the condition.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I must admit that the realization that Cameron Boyce is no longer with us still feels like a heavy stone in my heart. I can vividly recall where I was when I first heard the tragic news six years ago, and it’s etched into my memory. Although his life was cut short at such a young age, it brings me comfort knowing that his peers and fans continue to honor him not just for his acting talent but also for his exceptional character.
