A recent animation from Adult Swim shows the show Smiling Friends taking inspiration from the high-energy action of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball has a long history with Adult Swim, as it was a major hit on the Toonami programming block. Toonami introduced many anime fans to popular series for the first time, helping franchises like Dragon Ball gain a large following in the US and other countries when anime was harder to find.
I’ve always loved that Adult Swim gives anime such a great platform, but they’re amazing at creating original animated shows too! Smiling Friends has been a massive hit since it first came out, and honestly, people are obsessed with how the characters can fit into any scenario. And now? They’ve really pushed that to the limit! Adult Swim just dropped this awesome promo where Smiling Friends recreates one of the most iconic scenes from Dragon Ball Z, and it’s seriously cool. You have to check it out!
What’s Going On With Smiling Friends?
The animated promo, “Smiling Ball Z,” is created by Shane Derling and features the voices of the creators of Smiling Friends – Michael Cusack as Pim, Zach Hadel as Charlie, and Marc M. as Mr. Boss – reimagined as characters from the Dragon Ball Z universe. It showcases the comedic chemistry of the Smiling Friends cast and proves their humor translates well to any setting. The promo also serves as a fun distraction while fans wait for new episodes of the animated series.
New episodes of Smiling Friends Season 3 are currently on Adult Swim, but there’s been a slight delay. The next episode will now air on Sunday, November 2nd at 11:30 PM Eastern Time. It’s a little disappointing because the episode was originally planned as a Halloween special, meaning fans will have to wait until November to see it. However, more episodes are still coming!
What’s Next for Smiling Friends?
The latest season of Smiling Friends is currently airing on Adult Swim, and good news for fans – the show has been renewed for Seasons 4 and 5! This means we’ll be getting many more episodes in the future. Creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel recently told ComicBook they have a vision for how long they want the series to continue.
Hadel explained that they frequently discuss how long the show should run. From the very beginning, with the pilot episode, they’ve talked about what it would take to continue indefinitely – how many seasons they’d make if money wasn’t an issue, considering options like five, eight, ten, or even just three. Ultimately, they’ll stop when they feel they’re losing creative steam or repeating ideas. That’s when they’ll know it’s time to end the show.
