Superhero movies have been incredibly popular for over twenty years, and as a result, certain patterns have become familiar to audiences. A common one is the hero getting a new costume in each sequel. While some filmmakers have tried to explain these changes within the story itself (like giving Batman more head mobility in The Dark Knight), the main reason is usually to sell more merchandise. New costumes mean new toys and collectibles, and some fans see this as a simple way to make more money. Viewers are hoping that James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie will break this trend.
As a huge DC fan, I was checking out Reddit and stumbled upon a picture from the Warner Bros. studio tour. It showed the Superman costume display, but something was missing – David Corenswet’s suit! Instead, there was a sign saying it was currently being used for filming. This has everyone thinking James Gunn is actually using the same costume for ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ which is pretty cool if true. I’ve included a link to the photo below so you can see for yourself!

Will Superman Have the Same Costume in Man of Tomorrow?
Just a reminder that filming on Man of Tomorrow hasn’t begun yet. Production is expected to start sometime next year, with the movie planned for release in 2027. James Gunn recently completed the latest script draft, confirming the film is still in early stages. Therefore, David Corenswet’s Superman costume isn’t currently being used for filming. Supergirl finished filming earlier this year, so it’s probably not being used for that movie either, unless Corenswet needs to be filmed for some extra scenes (if he’s even in Supergirl).
Costume design happens early in the filmmaking process, which is likely why the team working on Man of Tomorrow needs David Corenswet’s Superman suit so soon. Director James Gunn might still be deciding whether to simply use the existing costume, so he’s asked for different design ideas and mockups to compare. Even if he has a favorite, seeing these options visually can help him make a final decision. Because Gunn often shares information with fans online, it will be interesting to see if he explains why the Superman suit wasn’t shown at the recent display.
It would be great to see the same Superman costume again. The design struck a perfect balance between honoring the classic look and feeling new, and a lot of care clearly went into its creation – even down to details like the trunks. It would be a shame to abandon such a successful design so quickly. Sometimes, sticking with what works is the best option, and there’s currently no compelling reason to change Superman’s costume.
Costumes are a great way to visually show how a character changes and develops throughout a story. In the movie Superman, we saw him come to terms with his alien origins and prove he was just as human as anyone else – a powerful emotional journey that could inspire a new costume to mark a fresh start. However, there are other ways to reflect Superman’s growth. If James Gunn likes the original Superman costume, it makes sense to use that same design in Man of Tomorrow.
