Horror Master Who Has Been Around For 128 Years Is Returning With a New Story

Image Comics has been consistently creating popular and well-received comic book adaptations of the classic Universal Monsters. Now, their version of Universal Monsters Dracula is getting a special release in a striking black and white edition.

The Universal Monsters Dracula Black & White Special will collect the critically acclaimed miniseries by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds. Each issue of the special will contain two original issues of the series, and the entire story will be presented in black and white. This artistic choice is meant to capture the mood of the classic 1931 Dracula film starring Bela Lugosi.

This special edition has been beautifully remastered in black and white as a tribute to a groundbreaking horror film.

What does the editor of the Dracula special have to say about the new release?

Skybound announced a new edition of the comic series Dracula by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds. According to Skybound’s Editorial Director, Alex Antone, this special black and white version is being released due to popular demand. The publisher suggests it’s perfect for fans of classic monster movies and enjoying a glass of wine while reading.

Simmonds’ artwork for this series was nominated for an Eisner Award, and now readers will see it in a new way – completely in black and white. Using only black and white adds a unique atmosphere to horror comics, and the preview pages released by Skybound demonstrate this beautifully. The contrast between the colors makes the white elements stand out dramatically, creating a stronger visual impact than color artwork.

James Tynion IV is revisiting the classic Universal Monsters concept in his current comic book work, which features incredible art by Dani and coloring by Brad Simpson.

Universal Monsters Dracula Black & White Special #1 is out this Wednesday, October 28th.
