10 Most Underrated Jedi in Star Wars

The Star Wars universe is incredibly expansive, and the Jedi Order has a long history spanning thousands of years, filled with countless heroes who influenced events. While figures like Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker are famous, many other Jedi served with just as much commitment and talent. However, their accomplishments often get lost in the bigger story. These lesser-known heroes were powerful Force users and skilled fighters who made important sacrifices, often without seeking recognition. Though their stories aren’t always the focus, they are filled with courage, wisdom, and a special connection to the Force.

Let’s recognize the individuals who have made significant contributions to the Jedi Order and the battle against darkness, but haven’t received enough credit.

10) Luminara Unduli

Luminara was a well-regarded General during the Clone Wars, famous for her self-control, ability to stay calm in difficult situations, and skill with the Force and lightsaber. She was a strong leader who earned the respect of both Jedi and clone troopers alike, representing the calm wisdom and dependable strength valued within the Jedi Order.

Luminara Unduli died tragically during Order 66, but her teachings lived on through her apprentice, Barriss Offee. However, Barriss later betrayed the Jedi, becoming a terrorist and falsely accusing Ahsoka Tano. Despite this, Luminara was a remarkably skilled and dedicated Jedi Master, known for her quiet effectiveness and commitment to the Jedi Code throughout the Clone Wars – qualities that often went unnoticed.

9) Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura was a skilled and popular Twi’lek Jedi Master who fought on the front lines throughout the Clone Wars. Known for her quickness and lightsaber skills, she was a highly respected commander who inspired fierce loyalty in the clone troopers of the 327th Star Corps.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Aayla Secura, and it wasn’t just because she was a skilled fighter. What really struck me was her compassion – she genuinely cared about people, even during war. She’d often risk the mission just to make sure civilians were safe, which I thought was amazing. Everyone seemed to love fighting alongside her, but it’s a shame her impact on the Jedi Order isn’t talked about more, because it was significant.

8) Quinlan Vos

Quinlan Vos was a rebellious Jedi who had the rare ability to touch an object and experience its past through psychometry. This skill frequently put him in risky situations, sometimes dangerously close to the dark side. During the Clone Wars, his daring undercover work – often requiring him to operate in morally gray areas – proved incredibly valuable to the Republic’s intelligence gathering.

As a movie critic, I’ve seen a lot of Jedi, but Kit Fisto really stands out. What makes him so compelling isn’t just his power, but his incredibly complicated past. He wrestled with darkness, both from outside forces and his own inner demons, and yet consistently chose the light. It’s a depth of character we don’t often see, and it makes his journey truly remarkable. He’s a resilient figure, and frankly, a standout even amongst the Jedi Order.

7) Kanan Jarrus

Kanan Jarrus, originally named Caleb Dume, was just a child when he survived the devastating Order 66 thanks to his master’s selflessness. He spent years in hiding until he met Hera Syndulla, the captain of the starship The Ghost and a rebel leader. This led him to become an unlikely leader and guide for a small group of rebels. Though he hadn’t finished his Jedi training, he never earned the title of Master, Kanan’s journey to heal from past trauma and accept his fate as a Jedi deeply inspired everyone around him.

Kanan’s most defining trait was his dedication to his found family, especially his apprentice, Ezra Bridger. He showed that being a true Jedi wasn’t about following rules, but about forming real connections and being willing to sacrifice everything for others – even when facing impossible challenges and personal hardship.

6) Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger started as a young, orphaned street urchin on the planet Lothal. He later discovered a strong connection to the Force and began training as a Jedi under Kanan Jarrus. His transformation from a distrustful thief into a courageous hero willing to sacrifice everything for his friends and others is a particularly compelling story in recent Star Wars history.

Ezra had a special link to a hidden dimension of the Force that no other Jedi knew about, and he felt a strong connection to all living things, especially animals. This allowed him to use the Force in remarkable ways. His courageous decision to sacrifice himself to save his home planet, Lothal, and his friends on the Ghost from Grand Admiral Thrawn established him as a true hero whose contributions to the early Rebel successes should be remembered more often.

5) Kit Fisto

Kit Fisto was a Nautolan Jedi Master known for his distinctive appearance – he looked somewhat like an octopus – and his ever-present, cheerful smile, even during combat. As a respected member of the Jedi Council, he was a masterful swordsman. His fighting style, rooted in Form I (Shien/Djem So), was fluid and graceful, making him a powerful opponent against the Separatist Army.

A seasoned warrior of the Clone Wars, he commanded Republic troops in numerous conflicts, including the pivotal Battle of Mon Calamari. He was known for his calm demeanor and strategic mind, qualities that proved essential in battle. However, his achievements are often remembered in connection with the tragic events surrounding his death – the confrontation between Mace Windu and Palpatine, and Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side.

4) Cal Kestis

Cal Kestis was a Jedi Padawan who barely survived the devastating Order 66. He spent years in hiding, but eventually had to fight back against the Empire and accept his role as a Jedi. His journey is about overcoming trauma, finding inner peace, and trying to restore hope while being constantly hunted by the Empire’s Inquisitors.

Cal possesses a rare gift similar to Quinlan Vos, allowing him to learn about the past by touching objects or people. Combined with his strength, kindness, and skillful lightsaber fighting, he’s a crucial Jedi working to protect the Republic and the Jedi Order, even if he operates more quietly than others.

3) Jocasta Nu

Jocasta Nu, the Chief Librarian of the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, knew more about the Jedi Order than almost anyone in the galaxy. She was deeply committed to protecting and preserving the Jedi’s history, customs, and secrets, making her a key guardian of their traditions and way of life.

Following the attack on the Jedi, she played a crucial role in safeguarding the remaining Jedi and children strong with the Force. She made sure important texts and knowledge repositories weren’t destroyed with the Republic and didn’t fall into the hands of Palpatine and Vader. Her unwavering dedication to truth and subtle resistance, lasting until her death, demonstrate that Jedi heroism isn’t always displayed through combat.

2) Kirak Infil’a

Kirak Infil’a was a remarkably disciplined Jedi Master and one of the rare few to survive Order 66. He had taken a special vow, known as the Barash Vow, years before, which led him to isolate himself from the Jedi Order. He was renowned for his incredible skill with a lightsaber, to the point where he was considered a one-man weapon.

Kirak’s fight against the newly resurrected Darth Vader was an incredibly difficult one for the Sith Lord, demonstrating Kirak’s exceptional abilities. Although he didn’t remain famous for long, Kirak’s immense power and unwavering commitment to the Force showcased a rare and fading style of Jedi discipline. Notably, after defeating Kirak, Vader took his lightsaber and used its kyber crystal to create the signature red blade we know today.

1) Tarre Vizsla

Tarre Vizsla is a famous figure known as the only Mandalorian ever accepted into the Jedi Order. Because of his unique background – being both a Mandalorian and a Jedi – he greatly impacted the histories of both groups. He was both a Jedi Knight and, eventually, the leader of Mandalore.

Tarre is remembered through the Darksaber, a special lightsaber he forged that became a symbol of power on Mandalore and shaped the planet’s history. He was an exceptional figure, known for uniting different cultures, and remains largely a mystery to us.
