The Halo series is famous for both its engaging story campaigns and its incredibly popular multiplayer modes. Halo 2 was a major reason people subscribed to Xbox Live when it first launched, and it became one of the biggest online multiplayer games alongside Call of Duty. Even though more recent Halo games haven’t been quite as popular, a strong and active competitive community still thrives around Halo Infinite.
Players will need to keep using the 2020 version of the game because the new Halo: Campaign Evolved won’t include player-versus-player (PvP) modes. Halo Studios shared this news in an interview with Windows Central.
Damon Conn, the executive producer, explained they weren’t aiming to remake the original, which he called a masterpiece. Instead, they wanted to create something equally impressive, using modern techniques and a new approach while still respecting the original’s importance and history.
It’s crucial that the team delivers a smooth and enjoyable four-player co-op campaign, along with cross-play and cross-progression features, now that PlayStation players can join in for the first time.
This new release is more than just a single-player campaign; it’s designed to bring people together. Throughout the history of Halo, building a strong community and sharing experiences has always been key, and we believe this release will continue that tradition.
While it’s understandable that Halo Studios might be focusing on the next major Halo game, it’s still disappointing that PlayStation players won’t have the chance to play this classic part of the series, especially for those new to it.
The highly anticipated game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is scheduled to release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can find details on how the developers are using Unreal Engine 5 while keeping the game’s original code intact, and you can also watch over 13 minutes of gameplay footage from the ‘Silent Cartographer’ mission.
