Marvel Studios could be building towards a new team of heroes, potentially a supernatural group similar to the Midnight Sons. With the Avengers largely missing since 2019, Marvel has been hinting at several possible replacement teams. While the New Avengers are taking shape in Thunderbolts and a new team led by Sam Wilson was teased in Captain America: Brave New World, other groups like the Young Avengers, West Coast Avengers, and Defenders have also been suggested as possibilities.
Marvel Studios has been subtly suggesting the introduction of the Midnight Sons, a team of supernatural heroes and antiheroes originally created for Marvel Comics in 1992. This group specializes in magic and the mystical arts, and fans are excited about the possibility of seeing existing MCU characters – including sorcerers, monsters, gods, and witches – join forces as the Midnight Sons. This could create the most powerful, unpredictable, and diverse superhero team the MCU has ever seen.
10) Marc Spector’s Moon Knight

In the 2022 Disney+ series Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac played Marc Spector, the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. As Moon Knight, Marc – and his other identities, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley – possesses enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and can quickly heal from injuries, making him a skilled fighter. With these abilities and the power of Khonshu, he’s a strong contender to join the Midnight Sons, a team of supernatural heroes. His ally and wife, Layla El-Faouly (played by May Calamawy), who gains powers from the goddess Taweret, could join him, but neither character has appeared since the Moon Knight series ended.
9) Elsa Bloodstone

Elsa Bloodstone, the daughter of legendary monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone, would be a strong addition to the Midnight Sons team. Though she doesn’t have natural superpowers, she’s a skilled fighter, works with super-powered allies, and possesses the powerful Bloodstone. This stone grants her near-immortality, allows her to shoot energy blasts, and shields her from monsters – making her a valuable asset. It’s been a while since we last saw Elsa in the Werewolf by Night special, and now would be an ideal time to bring the character back into the MCU.
8) Jack Russell’s Werewolf by Night

Gael García Bernal introduced Jack Russell in the Marvel special Werewolf by Night. Russell is cursed to turn into a werewolf during full moons, but he uses his powers to protect other monsters and fight those who endanger them. As the Werewolf by Night, he possesses incredible strength, speed, heightened senses, and can heal quickly. While his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is uncertain, many fans hope to see him return, potentially as part of the Midnight Sons team.
7) Man-Thing

In the Werewolf by Night special, Jack Russell battled other hunters to save his friend, Man-Thing. While Man-Thing’s history hasn’t been revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, including him in a team called the Midnight Sons would be a great way to explore his past. We learned that Man-Thing was once held captive on Sakaar before returning to Earth, where Verussa Bloodstone was hunting him. Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone rescued him, and fans would love to see this powerful and enigmatic character return to the MCU.
6) Danny Rand’s Iron Fist

In 2024, Netflix’s Defenders series, including the story of Danny Rand (the Iron Fist), officially became part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Danny Rand gained incredible power through his chi, allowing him to become the Iron Fist – a master martial artist dedicated to helping others. With Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter reprising their roles in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, many fans believe Finn Jones deserves another opportunity to play the Iron Fist, potentially as a ‘Midnight Son’.
5) Jennifer Kale

Sasheer Zamata portrayed Jennifer Kale, a Marvel witch who made her debut in the MCU through the Disney+ series Agatha All Along. Initially lacking magical abilities, Kale was chosen by Agatha Harkness to navigate the mystical Witches’ Road—which unexpectedly turned out to be real. During the Road’s challenges, Kale discovered Agatha had stolen her powers and successfully reclaimed them. Having survived the Witches’ Road, Jennifer Kale is now well-positioned to join the Midnight Sons, potentially working with other magically gifted members of her family.
In Marvel comics, Jennifer Kale is Johnny Blaze’s cousin. Johnny Blaze became the Ghost Rider after making a deal with Mephisto, and he was one of the founding members of the original Midnight Sons team. It would be great if Marvel Studios acknowledged this family connection in the MCU, especially before introducing Ghost Rider, as it would be a perfect way to set up the Midnight Sons’ first appearance.
4) Wong

While Jennifer Kale could join the Midnight Sons, Benedict Wong’s Wong might be the one to actually bring the team together, particularly with Ghost Rider currently unavailable. Since his debut in Doctor Strange (2016), Wong has become Earth’s leading expert in magic. He already knows many heroes, antiheroes, and villains, making him a natural choice to assemble the Midnight Sons – a team he’s led before in Marvel comics.
3) Doctor Strange

Before Wong officially became the Sorcerer Supreme during the five-year Blip, Doctor Strange was in contention for the position. Even so, Strange is widely recognized as Earth’s most famous and skilled magic user, making him a strong and important addition to the Midnight Sons. His teamwork experience and deep understanding of the supernatural would make him a vital member – and potentially the leader – of the group. Currently, Strange is occupied with another magic user, which could mean Charlize Theron’s Clea might also join the Midnight Sons.
2) Eric Brooks’ Blade

Mahershala Ali was originally cast as Blade in 2019, but fans haven’t yet seen him play the character in a live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe film. While he voiced a version of Blade in Eternals and a version appeared in the animated series Marvel Zombies, the development of the Blade reboot has faced several challenges. Fans are eager to see Ali become the MCU’s Blade, and many hope his introduction will tie into the Midnight Sons – a team Blade leads in the Marvel comics.
1) Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch

Although Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, seemingly died, fans are eagerly anticipating her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of the character has made her a favorite among viewers, and her complex story – filled with trauma and transformation since her first appearance in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron – has captivated audiences. While she sacrificed herself after being influenced by a dark force in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the upcoming VisionQuest series focuses on her family, leading many to hope for her eventual return.
Elizabeth Olsen has hinted at a possible return for her character, and fans are excited about the potential for the Scarlet Witch to join the Midnight Sons. As the most powerful magic-user in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wanda Maximoff can not only perform traditional witchcraft, but also bend reality itself using Chaos Magic. Her unique abilities as a Nexus Being would make her a valuable addition to the team, and many are hoping she’ll return soon to find a path to redemption.
