A game that was previously only available on PlayStation 5 is now also available on Xbox consoles. It’s included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium subscriptions right when it launched, meaning players on both PC and Xbox Series X can play it. Reactions have been mixed, with some players finding it dull, while others are calling it an exceptional game.
A recent post on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page has gained a lot of attention, with many users calling a particular game a “masterpiece” and giving it a score of 9.5 out of 10. The post’s popularity suggests this is a fairly widespread opinion. However, a lot of the comments underneath show people aren’t as impressed with Pacific Drive.
“Amazing”
I just wanted to share that this game is exceptional – way better than your average Game Pass title. I usually dislike survival games, but this one completely drew me in. It’s incredibly immersive with a really unique atmosphere and addictive gameplay.
Usually, popular posts on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page get a lot of supportive comments along with upvotes. However, this post is different.
One popular comment simply stated, “I couldn’t get into this game at all.” Another player, who enjoys survival games, said they disliked it a great deal.
Some players have described the game as incredibly dull, while others even experienced motion sickness while playing. It’s unclear which is accurate – is it a fantastic experience, or is it simply boring?
Masterpiece or Boring?
As is often the case, the reality about Pacific Drive lies somewhere between the extremes. It has a respectable 79 on Metacritic, but isn’t considered a groundbreaking game. On the Xbox Store, it averages 3.5 out of 5 stars, and opinions online – especially on Reddit – are all over the place. You’ll find both perfect reviews and very negative ones. Ultimately, it seems this new Xbox Game Pass title won’t appeal to all players.
About the Game
If you’re unfamiliar with Pacific Drive, it’s a first-person survival game released in 2024. It was developed by Ironwood Studios, their first game, and published by Kepler Interactive – the same publisher behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which is already being tipped as a potential Game of the Year winner in 2025.
The game puts you in the Olympic Exclusion Zone, a made-up, post-apocalyptic version of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Your goal is to survive by driving around and finding supplies, while also uncovering the secrets of this dangerous area.
I was checking out the new games on Xbox Game Pass, and Pacific Drive just dropped last week! It’s one of five games added right away with the subscription, which is awesome. If Pacific Drive isn’t really my thing, though, there are still plenty of other options. And get this – one of the other new games is already getting called a potential ‘Game of the Year’!
