Apple TV+ has consistently had popular shows, but a new crime thriller is now challenging its dominance. The Last Frontier has quickly become a hit, and is now competing with Apple TV+’s previous chart-topper for the number one spot.
As of October 27, 2025, FlixPatrol reports that The Last Frontier is the most popular show on Apple TV, ranking #1 in 73 countries worldwide, including the United States. It reached the top spot in the US on October 25th, bumping Slow Horses from its previous leading position. Created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, the team behind The Blacklist, The Last Frontier premiered on Apple TV on October 10th. The series follows a U.S. Marshal as he protects his Alaskan town and investigates a plane crash that unleashes dangerous fugitives.
Currently, The Last Frontier is the most popular show overall. It briefly beat Slow Horses in the rankings, but The Morning Show quickly overtook it, dropping The Last Frontier to second place by October 28th.
Jason Clarke leads the cast of The Last Frontier as Frank Remnick. Dominic Cooper plays Levi Taylor, nicknamed ‘Havlock,’ who is currently a fugitive in Alaska. Haley Bennett stars as Sidney Scofield, a CIA agent tasked with finding Havlock, while Simone Kessell and Tait Blum portray Frank’s wife and son. Dallas Goldtooth and Alfre Woodard round out the cast as a U.S. Marshal and a CIA official, respectively.
The film premiered on October 10th and has received a mixed reaction from critics. Currently, it holds a 41% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews from over 20 critics. However, audiences seem to like it more, giving it a 62% score on the site’s Popcornmeter, based on over 50 user ratings.
Writer Joshua M. Patton felt the series was fairly predictable and struggled to find its core idea believable. However, he also noted it wasn’t entirely without surprises or complex characters. While you could often guess a character’s secrets, Patton found the way those secrets unfolded and connected to the larger story remained enjoyable.
Even though reviews are mixed, the series is still attracting a large audience on Apple TV. As the story really starts to ramp up, it’s gaining popularity worldwide. With four episodes released so far, the first season of ten will continue with a new episode on October 31st.
Slow Horses Season 5 Is Also Airing New Episodes on Apple TV
Many viewers might be surprised to learn that the new show The Last Frontier has overtaken Slow Horses in popularity. This is especially notable because Slow Horses is also currently releasing new episodes. Season 5 of Slow Horses began airing on September 24th, with episodes dropping every Wednesday, and the sixth episode is set to premiere on October 29th.
Unlike The Last Frontier, Slow Horses has received widespread critical praise, consistently earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes across all five seasons. The show centers around a flawed but dedicated team of MI5 agents and their unconventional boss, played by Gary Oldman, as they work to protect England. This popularity has already secured a Season 7 renewal. Whether The Last Frontier‘s recent streaming success will lead to a second season remains to be seen.
New episodes of The Last Frontier and Slow Horses air weekly on Apple TV.
