Aaron Pierre is known for playing John Stewart in the new DC series Lanterns, alongside Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. However, before taking on this role, he was cast in Marvel’s Blade reboot. Unfortunately, he’s no longer part of that film, which has faced many delays and problems since it was first announced over six years ago. Pierre is now sharing his experience with the project while it continues to try and move forward.
In an interview with Men’s Health, actor Pierre spoke about his initial excitement when he was cast in Blade, but explained why he ultimately left the project. He realized that being cast isn’t the same as actually starting work on a film. He said the movie went in a different creative direction, and he wasn’t involved anymore, something he accepted as part of the process.
The MCU’s Blade Reboot is Still Happening (but When Will it Come Out?)

Pierre wasn’t the only actor to leave the Blade movie because of problems during production. Earlier this year, Delroy Lindo, known for Sinners, described the project as falling apart before he exited. Even though the film has lost talented actors and struggled with the script for years, Marvel is still determined to make Blade. Mia Goth remains involved and believes the delays are to ensure the movie is made well by Kevin Feige and his team.
Currently, there’s no set release date for the Blade movie, so it’s uncertain when it will be released. Considering Marvel’s current plans, Blade likely won’t be in theaters until after Avengers: Secret Wars. Next year only has two Marvel movies scheduled (Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday), and 2027 currently only has Secret Wars. Another movie slot for 2027 was originally reserved for a Marvel film, but Disney has now given that date to The Simpsons Movie sequel. This means Blade won’t premiere until at least 2028, which is probably a good thing. It makes sense to reintroduce such a well-known character after Secret Wars reshapes the MCU. Releasing Blade before then wouldn’t be ideal, and he might not even be involved in Doomsday.
Fans might have to wait even longer for the Blade movie. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is making changes to how they release films and shows after a few years of inconsistent results, meaning fewer releases overall. Feige has emphasized that any new project needs to be exceptional, and the Blade reboot isn’t quite there yet. Essentially, the script needs to be fantastic before the movie can move forward. While the delay is annoying, it’s better to hold out for a great story than to rush out something disappointing.
By the time the Blade movie is released, Pierre will already be a familiar face in the DC Universe. James Gunn has stated that the Lanterns series is crucial for building the future of the franchise, hinting that we might see the popular “Blackest Night” storyline adapted. While it’s unclear exactly what role Pierre’s John Stewart will play long-term, it seems he’s set to be a key member of the Green Lantern Corps for a while. He’s a talented actor, and though things didn’t work out with Marvel, he’s now getting a chance to shine in a major superhero part. Hopefully, Blade can also help launch the career of another up-and-coming actor.
