It’s a good time to be a fan of choice-driven RPGs, because The Outer Worlds 2 just dropped on PS5.
Obsidian’s newest version has been available for a few days now through a paid early access program, and initial player feedback is looking good.
The original Outer Worlds came out on PlayStation 4 in 2019, so fans have been waiting a while for this sequel. Early reviews, including ours, suggest The Outer Worlds 2 is a significant improvement over the first game in almost every way.
In our review of The Outer Worlds 2 on PS5, we found that it’s a strong sequel, building on the original with more choices and freedom for players. The RPG elements are excellent, and both fighting and exploring the game world have been noticeably improved.
Ultimately, we gave it a score of 7 out of 10, but the story and characters had some problems. While the writing is smart, the game feels consistently gloomy, and it’s hard to get invested in the characters or the different groups within the game because they aren’t very well developed.
If you enjoy games with detailed role-playing systems, especially how those systems impact character growth and the overall experience, then this sci-fi adventure is likely to appeal to you.
