The X-Men are currently featured in “Age of Revelation,” a storyline set ten years in the future of the Marvel Universe. A devastating virus, the X-Virus, has swept across the United States, causing widespread death and mutation. Now, a figure known as Revelation – formerly Doug Ramsey – controls a large area, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating. This story is notable for expanding beyond the X-Men, bringing in characters from across the Marvel Universe, including the Avengers in the X-Vengers #1 issue. This new team consists of both mutants and Avengers who have been mutated, and a particularly exciting aspect is its leader: Dani Moonstar, who is now wielding Captain America’s shield.
The first issue of X-Vengers is quite enjoyable, and Dani is a standout character. In the past, Captain America died and, having faith in her, passed on his shield, making her the new leader of the Avengers. This is a significant moment for Moonstar, a well-loved but sometimes overlooked hero. Captain America choosing her as his successor feels like a natural and fitting development for the character.
Captain America Believes that Dani Moonstar Is the Perfect Hero

We’ve seen many different heroes take on the role of Captain America, but Dani Moonstar feels like a particularly fitting choice. As a member of the Cheyenne Nation, she embodies a deep connection to America that arguably surpasses anyone who’s wielded the shield before. Considering the difficult history between the United States and Native American tribes – a history of simply wanting to live peacefully – it’s incredibly meaningful to see a Native woman in this position, and Dani is the ideal person to carry that responsibility.
I’ve been so impressed watching Dani grapple with her own doubts throughout this story. It really highlights why Captain America saw so much potential in her. She isn’t someone who thinks she’s above everyone else, but she does have the inner strength to protect people, and that’s amazing. It’s compelling to see her trying to prove herself worthy of the shield, even though Cap clearly already believes in her. It feels so natural, honestly, especially considering everything she’s been through with the X-Men. It just fits her character perfectly.
I first discovered Dani Moonstar in an old New Mutants graphic novel, and I instantly loved her! She was so cool – able to make things with her mind, create illusions, and even read thoughts. It was amazing when she became a Valkyrie and got even stronger! It was a shame she didn’t join X-Force right away, and she was sidelined for a long time before finally doing so. She’d pop up here and there – always great to see her return to the New Mutants, and I enjoyed her time with the Fearless Defenders – but she never quite got the big spotlight she deserved, in my opinion.
Dani has always had the potential to be a truly great hero, but she hasn’t been given the opportunities to fully develop. This is a recurring issue with the New Mutants – many team members haven’t progressed much over the years, even though they’re incredibly talented. Dani was often presented as the team’s strongest member and could have become a leader like Cyclops, but she’s frequently been overlooked. That’s why it’s so meaningful that Captain America recognized her potential in X-Vengers. Dani deserves a chance to shine, and hopefully this is the start of her journey to becoming a major hero.
Dani Moonstar Deserves to Be an A-Lister

X-Vengers #1 is a really enjoyable comic, which is surprising considering I haven’t been a fan of recent X-Men storylines. What makes it great is how the story focuses on Dani Moonstar. She expertly leads her team against a Kree invasion, relying on her experience, smarts, and understanding of her teammates to win. This is Dani at her best, and Captain America recognizing her potential by giving her the shield and making her an Avengers leader confirms what New Mutants fans have always believed – she’s more than capable of being a top-tier hero.
Dani Moonstar has consistently demonstrated her leadership abilities, mentored younger heroes, earned a place among Asgardian warriors, and impressed even Captain America. Her dedicated fans believe she’s more than ready for a major role, and the new X-Vengers team could be the perfect opportunity to showcase her potential. Dani has always been a top-tier hero, deserving of recognition with either the X-Men or the Avengers. She’s a unique character, different from the traditional mold set by Cyclops, and it’s time Marvel acknowledges that and gives fans the spotlight they’ve been waiting for.
