Bob Mackie loved watching Taylor Swift make the whole place shimmer.
The famous designer, celebrated for his striking clothes, was thrilled that singer Opalite wore one of his embellished outfits on the cover of her album, The Life of a Showgirl.
I was surprised, honestly,” Mackie told TopMob News while previewing his upcoming collection with Julien’s Auctions. “I used to think of Taylor Swift as a young singer who wrote about classic princess stories.
But much to the 85-year-old’s surprise, “There she is. Looking like a showgirl.”
Bob Mackie, the renowned fashion designer, is excited about an upcoming exhibit at Julien’s Auctions called ‘Bold Luxury: Bob Mackie, Stage Glamour & The Couture Edit’ opening December 3rd. He was particularly pleased to see Taylor Swift’s album cover, as it revealed a new and unexpected side of her style.
He was really impressed with her. “She’s much taller and older than I expected,” he said with a laugh. “I honestly thought she was still a teenager! I was way off.”
Mackie first created the outfit Taylor Swift wore as a showgirl back in August, as he revealed in an Instagram post. It was originally designed for the long-running Las Vegas show Jubilee!, which performed at Bally’s (now Horseshoe Las Vegas) from 1981 until 2016.
It’s not only Billie Eilish who has showcased Mackie’s work; he also fondly remembered his ongoing collaboration with Cher.
He told TopMob News he was amazed by the creature, describing her as gorgeous. He added that he’s worked with her for fifty to sixty years, and it’s surprising to realize she still appears to be eighteen years old.
The designer believes he knows why Cher has always looked so amazing wearing his designs, whether it was her famous dress at the 1986 Oscars or the outfit she wore in the “If I Could Turn Back Time” music video from 1989.
Mackie observed that she’s incredibly confident and fearless, and she really enjoys dressing up – she always looks great when she does.
He remarked that she hadn’t changed much, saying, “Looking at her picture today is like seeing the same woman I met years ago.”
Mackie is thrilled to see stars like Cher and Taylor Swift wearing his designs, and he told TopMob, “I love that!”
