The Scream movies have shown remarkable staying power, successfully attracting a new audience with two recent, popular installments. Though production faced some difficulties and a change in cast, excitement quickly returned when Neve Campbell announced she’d be reprising her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7. Now, the first trailer for the new film is here, and it promises the same thrills and scares fans expect. Ghostface is back, and this time, it’s clear Sidney is the killer’s main target after all these years.
The trailer begins with a scary scene of a young couple being chased by Ghostface while staying at a secluded Airbnb. It then shows Sidney Prescott having built a peaceful new life with her family, far from the horrors of Woodsboro. However, that peace is quickly broken when a new Ghostface targets her, starting a terrifying ordeal that puts everything she loves at risk.
The new trailer for the upcoming Scream movie shows Sidney Prescott’s daughter, Tatum, is now being targeted by the killer, pulling Sidney back into a terrifying and familiar fight for survival. The footage hints at a killer with a personal connection to Sidney’s past, and shows her desperately trying to unmask them before they harm her daughter. Courteney Cox will return as the determined reporter Gale Weathers, and we’ll also see the return of Chad and Mindy, the surviving siblings from the last two films.
Can Scream 7 Survive Its Behind-The-Scenes Drama?

Making Scream 7 has been almost as chaotic as a scene from the movies themselves. The production faced big changes after the main four actors decided to leave. Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, was let go because of some controversial posts she made on social media. Soon after, Jenna Ortega, who played her sister Tara, also announced she wouldn’t be back. These changes led director Christopher Landon to leave the project, saying his dream job had turned into a difficult situation.
After a difficult production process, the Scream franchise revitalized itself by returning to its original spirit. Kevin Williamson, the writer and creator of the first Scream film, took on directing duties, which fans greatly appreciated. The return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, after she didn’t appear in Scream VI over a salary disagreement, completed the comeback. Campbell had made it clear she would only return if her contribution to the franchise was properly valued, and her participation indicates the studio addressed her concerns to bring back their beloved star.
The first trailer for Scream 7 shows a polished, scary, and self-assured movie. By bringing the story back to Sidney and involving the original filmmakers, it seems the series has found its footing again. Now, audiences will see if this new direction leads to another great installment.
Scream 7 is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026.
