Disney+ is adding a surprisingly spooky title to its collection next month, one of Disney’s most anticipated releases of 2025. It’s been a busy year for Walt Disney Pictures, with live-action remakes like Snow White and Lilo & Stitch, the animated film Elio, and new Marvel adventures like Thunderbolts. Now, just three months after its theatrical release – where it received a 74% rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics – this movie is coming to streaming.
Disney+ will begin streaming the comedy Freakier Friday on November 12th. This movie is a sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday, which itself was a remake of a 1976 film. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis return as Tess and Anna Coleman, and this time, they—along with their blended family, including Julia Butters as Harper and Sophia Hammons as Lily—find themselves switching bodies again, 22 years after the original movie.
Freakier Friday Was a Sequel That Was Worth the Wait
After twenty years in development, Freakier Friday delivered on all expectations. Critics and audiences both enjoyed the film, giving it high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes – 74% from critics and an impressive 91% from viewers – and earning it both a ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’ designation.
This movie brilliantly brings back the charm and warmth of the original, while also making the body-swap idea fresh and funny for today’s audiences. It playfully explores modern parenting and teenage life. For fans of the first film, it’s a wonderfully nostalgic experience, filled with references and nods to the 2003 classic, and Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis still have the fantastic chemistry that made the original so popular.
Over twenty years after the first film, the remake of Freaky Friday was a huge success. Released in August, it quickly made back its $42 million budget during its opening weekend and ultimately grossed $153 million worldwide in theaters.
Will There Be a Freaky Friday 3?
Because the movie Freaky Friday remains popular, and the recent release of Freakier Friday did well, many fans are hoping for another sequel. While there aren’t any plans for a third film right now, studio executives haven’t ruled out the possibility of bringing the series back in the future.
Nisha Ganatra, who directed the film Freakier Friday, recently shared some ideas for a potential Freaky Friday 3 with Screen Rant. She suggested the sequel, possibly titled Freakiest Friday, would involve even more body swaps – maybe even a six-way swap! She specifically mentioned wanting to see Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray trade places, saying, “We all need that!”
You’ll be able to stream Freaky Friday on Disney+ starting November 12th. The original 1976 movie and the 2003 remake are both already available on the service.
