
I remember when the anime adaptation of Moriarty the Patriot first came out in 2020 – the manga was already really popular in Jump SQ, created by Ryosuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi. The first part of the anime ended in 2021, and it left viewers with a lot of loose ends and unresolved mysteries. Despite being produced by the well-known studio Production I.G, the show never got a second season, which was disappointing. Things got a bit complicated when the manga’s first arc finished in 2022, followed by a spin-off in 2023. Now, a new part of the manga has been coming out monthly since 2024, which means there’s definitely enough material available for another season of the anime if they decided to make one.
I’ve been following Moriarty the Patriot, and the anime has adapted about 56 chapters of the manga so far, though it does take some liberties with the original plot. Fans, myself included, are really hoping for a second season, especially because the story gets even more gripping after the time skip. While there hasn’t been any official word on a renewal, a recent tease at Jump Festa 2026 has given us a little bit of hope that an announcement might be coming soon.
Jump Festa 2026 Will Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Moriarty the Patriot

The manga series first appeared in August 2016 and has been published monthly ever since. This year, Moriarty the Patriot will be featured at Jump Festa, a major anime and manga convention, on its first day at the Jump Station. A special musical event for the series will be held on December 20th, 2025, from 11:40 AM to 12:20 PM (Japan Standard Time), hosted by Shun Takagi, who voices George Lestrade. Additional cast members will also be present. The official Jump Festa website has recently been updated with all the details and the full schedule for the two-day event.
The website says a big announcement is coming in 2026, as it’s a significant year for the series. While it’s not confirmed, the announcement could be about a new anime season. Even if there isn’t a sequel, fans can likely expect some kind of new project, as these anniversaries often bring exciting news for popular series.
The second part concludes with a dramatic cliffhanger: William and Sherlock Holmes unexpectedly survive a fall from a bridge. Believed to be dead by everyone else, and with Albert surrendering to the authorities, Louis is left to manage the Moriarty family affairs. As the three brothers go their separate ways, the final scene shows Sherlock in a quiet countryside pub, mentioning he’s searching for a friend while speaking about William. We then see William nearby, playfully challenging Sherlock with a “Catch Me If You Can,” hinting at potential future storylines.
