A classic Nintendo 64 game has quietly launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Players who previously enjoyed it on PS4 and Xbox One through their respective stores may already own it, as this remastered version is now available natively on the newer consoles for $19.99.
Fans of the classic Turok series on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X can now play the remastered version of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1998. This follows the 2015 remaster of the first game, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, which also came to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X earlier this year. The remaster of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion has been available on those consoles since 2023. Unfortunately, Turok: Evolution, the fourth game in the series, is still only playable on older systems and there are no plans to update it.
About the Game
Released to critical acclaim, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil earned an impressive score of 89 on GameRankings and sold over a million copies. This success is why a sequel was made.
After Turok defeats the Campaigner, he tries to destroy the powerful Chronocepter by throwing it into a volcano. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work as planned. Instead, it awakens an even greater threat – the Primagen – who intends to combine Earth with the Nether World. Turok is the only one who can prevent this catastrophe and save the world.
This remaster is so extensive it’s almost a remake. The game was completely rebuilt using a new engine to bring it up to modern standards. Improvements include support for high resolutions, better textures and lighting, realistic shadows and reflections, and enhanced models and visibility distance. While it doesn’t make the game look completely different from its original late 90s appearance, Nightdive Studios has significantly polished and improved all aspects of it.
