This year at Anime Expo, Studio MAPPA has much to be joyful about. Besides the upcoming movie compilation of “Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death” hitting theaters this month, fans can look forward to the return of Denji and his devil-filled world with “Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc” this fall. At the convention, MAPPA’s president, Manabu Otsuka, and Vice President Hiroya Hasegawa were in attendance, not only sharing updates on past projects but also hinting at potential future ones. We at egmr.ru were fortunate enough to speak with the studio heads, taking the opportunity to discuss the possibility of MAPPA delving into the intense anime series “Berserk” someday.
In our discussion with Otsuka and Hasegawa, we observed that MAPPA has experienced significant success with recent creations like “Zenshu” and “Bucchigiri”. However, they have also ventured into series that originated from manga such as “Attack on Titan”, “Ranma 1/2”, “Hell’s Paradise”, among others. Seizing the moment, we asked if there were possibilities of projects like “Berserk” or “Kagurabachi” in their upcoming plans. Here’s what Manabu Otsuka responded, “We will definitely continue to produce original content and collaborate on IP that fans are fond of. We always strive to satisfy our audience, and this is something we take into account when adapting properties.
Berserk’s Anime Adventures
At the time this article was penned, there hasn’t been any news about a fresh Berserk anime adaptation from MAPPA or another studio. The last instance of seeing Guts and the Band of the Hawk in action was through the Berserk: Memorial Edition, which compiled material from the trilogy of films covering the Golden Age Arc. Given that there’s no new anime in sight, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Kentaro Miura’s legendary series.
Following the sad demise of Miura, writer Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga’s artists have taken over the mantle for the Berserk manga. They have utilized Kentaro’s notes and previous discussions about where he wanted to take the story. Although the manga chapters aren’t being published on a weekly or monthly basis, the latest installments aim to honor Miura’s past works by meeting his creative standards.
Currently, the situation for Guts and his companions remains uncertain in the gloomy world of the anime. Despite making unexpected allies within the Kushan Empire, Guts’ emotional turmoil has left him vulnerable and potentially endangered. The authorities of the empire, noticing the Brand on his neck, have chosen to exile him, which suggests that our hero will face even greater challenges ahead than his doubts about his abilities.
