Even though Halloween is over, HBO Max has some disappointing news for animation fans. The streaming service has removed several animated movies featuring Superman. This is surprising, especially since 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for the character. While Max subscribers won’t be able to watch these films on the platform anymore, there’s still a chance they’ll be available elsewhere.
On October 31st, HBO Max removed not only Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, but also several original animated movies starring Superman and Batman. Although DC animated content has moved from HBO Max to other streaming services like Netflix, Tubi, and Amazon Prime Video before, it’s currently unclear where these specific films will end up. Here’s a list of the DC animated movies that are no longer available on Warner Bros.’ streaming service:
- Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
- Batman And Superman: Battle of The Super Sons
- Superman: Man of Tomorrow
- Reign of The Supermen
- The Death of Superman
- Superman Unbound
Where to Now Superman?
James Gunn’s arrival at DC Studios has brought some changes; he’s now co-chairman and co-CEO. While Creature Commandos is the first animated project under his direction, DC isn’t stopping there. Warner Bros. previously announced plans for a series of animated movies based on the popular Batman: Knightfall storyline. This story is famous for introducing the villain Bane and features Bruce Wayne temporarily handing the Batman mantle to the character Azrael, making it a significant chapter in Batman’s history.
With HBO Max potentially dropping the Superman films, another streaming service could benefit. Tubi recently had a lot of success adding the Looney Tunes library, and might be interested in these DC animated movies too. However, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video already offer plenty of superhero content featuring Superman and Batman.
A new Batman animated series called “Bat-Fam” is coming to Amazon this month. It’s a continuation of the movie Merry Little Batman and is designed for younger viewers, featuring fresh and unique takes on familiar heroes and villains from Gotham.
