Xbox Fans Have Had Enough and Say “RIP Game Pass”

Xbox fans on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles are expressing their dissatisfaction with Xbox Game Pass right now. Microsoft increased the price of Game Pass again just a month ago, bringing the cost of the Ultimate tier – which includes new games on release day – to $30 per month. That’s a significant expense.

Okay, so Microsoft knows we’ve all been feeling the pinch with the price hikes for Game Pass, and they’re trying to make it up to us by adding more games right when they launch. They just dropped nine games all at once, but honestly? Most of them aren’t exactly blockbusters. They’re smaller indie titles, and a lot of us subscribers aren’t super thrilled with the selection. It feels like they’re adding quantity over quality right now.

“RIP Game Pass”

So, I’ve been checking out the Xbox Game Pass subreddit, and honestly, the biggest topic right now is people saying the service is going downhill. A lot of gamers feel like the quality of games isn’t getting better fast enough to justify the recent price hikes – they’re basically saying it’s not worth the money anymore.

A recent post lamented the future of Xbox Game Pass, stating, “It was nice while it lasted.” The author feels the $360 annual cost of Game Pass Ultimate is too high, especially considering the improvements in game quality haven’t kept pace with the price increase. They also expressed concern that other essential services might also see price hikes.

A single negative comment about Xbox Game Pass isn’t usually a big deal, but this week it’s the most popular post on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page. It’s received almost 2,000 upvotes – a lot for that community – and most of the comments agree with the original point.

One popular comment simply said, “Today is my last day as a subscriber too. I understand how frustrating this is.” The commenter explained they’re pausing all subscriptions and will be focusing on playing games offline for a while, expressing disappointment with Microsoft’s recent choices.

Another commenter noted, “All good things must end.” And a third person agreed, saying, “It’s just not worth it for me anymore.”

Xbox Game Pass isn’t losing subscribers, but it’s also not gaining any new ones – growth has completely stalled, which isn’t a good sign for the long term. Concerns about whether the service could continue to operate as it has were always present, and those concerns are now looking more valid. A key part of what makes Game Pass attractive is the availability of new games on day one, but offering these games is very expensive. This puts Microsoft in a difficult situation as they consider the future of the service.
