Marvel Studios might have revealed how the Multiverse Saga will end. The recent film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, started Phase 6, which is the final part of this big storyline. The saga will conclude with two movies: Avengers: Doomsday coming next year, and another film the year after that. These movies will wrap up the second major chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and begin a new era for the franchise, almost 20 years after it first started.
Details about the upcoming Secret Wars movie have been slipping out during development, but filming hasn’t started yet, so much of the plot remains a secret. Recently, Marvel Studios held a public event discussing the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the 2027 Avengers film. At the event, they may have hinted at important details about Secret Wars, possibly revealing the main villain of the entire Multiverse Saga.
The Beyonder Could Appear in Avengers: Secret Wars
Disney showcased its future movie plans at an event in São Paulo, Brazil, including a first look at Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for 2027. While the movie itself wasn’t a surprise, the promotional image caught fans’ attention. Instead of a typical placeholder, the poster featured Captain America (Sam Wilson), Spider-Man (Miles Morales), and a mysterious third figure. This figure turned out to be the Beyonder, a hugely powerful character from Marvel Comics who hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. The Beyonder is an incredibly powerful being responsible for bringing together Earth’s heroes and villains in the original Secret Wars storyline in 1984, and also plays a key role in the 2015 version where Doctor Doom gains his powers. Since Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to draw from the 2015 story, the Beyonder’s appearance at the Brazil event is exciting news for Marvel fans.
The new poster has sparked debate online, with many questioning why Disney used fan art instead of official artwork. The character selection is also odd, as only Sam Wilson is currently confirmed to be in Secret Wars. While not officially announced, the inclusion of the Beyonder is the most surprising, as audiences weren’t sure he’d appear. Although he’s central to the Secret Wars comic, Disney often changes storylines for its movies. Fans have been theorizing about how Doctor Doom will gain his powers in both Doomsday and Secret Wars without involving the Beyonder. However, the poster’s inclusion of the Beyonder suggests he will be part of the Multiverse Saga, and possibly have a larger role than initially anticipated.
Is the Beyonder the Real Villain of the Multiverse Saga?
Marvel might be surprising fans with a twist regarding the main villain of its Multiverse Saga. While Doctor Doom is expected to be a major threat in the upcoming Doomsday film, and many believed he’d continue as the primary villain in Secret Wars, that might not be true. The recent Secret Wars poster is raising eyebrows because it features the Beyonder instead of Doctor Doom, despite Doom being heavily promoted with Doomsday. This suggests the Beyonder could actually be the big bad of Secret Wars.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been thinking about where the Multiverse Saga is headed after Avengers: Doomsday. It seems like things could be setting up the Beyonder as the ultimate villain, potentially even before we get a proper showdown with Doctor Doom. Instead of a rematch with Doom in the finale, the Avengers might face a threat that’s on a completely different scale – the Beyonder, who could wipe out everything, not just our timeline. It would be a cool twist on the Secret Wars comic, where Doom actually became the most powerful being. It also aligns more with the original 1984 Secret Wars story, where the Beyonder was the big bad. Now, I get it – Doctor Doom is a massive character and deserves his moment, especially now that he’s finally in the MCU. Some longtime fans might be disappointed if Doom gets sidelined so quickly, but I think we should all be watching for hints that the real danger isn’t Doom, but the Beyonder. It’s an exciting possibility!
What to Expect From Avengers: Secret Wars
Much of the plot for Avengers: Secret Wars is still unknown, as the movie heavily depends on what happens in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Many believe Doomsday will end with a major cliffhanger, similar to Infinity War, likely caused by Doctor Doom unleashing a multiversal crisis. While the main villain isn’t certain, Secret Wars is expected to follow the comic books by featuring heroes from different universes battling on a single planet called Battleworld. This will likely include characters we’ve seen in other Marvel movies and TV shows. The X-Men, who are already appearing in Doomsday, are expected to return for Secret Wars. Rumors also suggest we might see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, and even some surprise appearances like Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider and Ben Affleck’s Daredevil.
Avengers: Secret Wars will essentially restart the Marvel Cinematic Universe, nearly twenty years after Iron Man launched it in 2008. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has stated that some MCU characters will continue their stories after the current Multiverse Saga ends, while others will be recast with new actors. This will refresh the timeline, providing a fresh start for future films and allowing for reboots of popular characters like the X-Men, Captain America, and Iron Man. Unlike the Infinity Saga’s focus on endings, the Multiverse Saga will conclude with a focus on new beginnings.
Avengers: Secret Wars will open in theaters on December 17, 2027.
