Kaitlin Olson is a remarkably talented actress who excels in both comedic and dramatic roles. Most viewers know her for her hilarious physical and witty performances on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but she’s recently showcased a compelling dramatic side in High Potential. As a long-time fan, it’s been wonderful to watch her range, and I especially appreciate how she’s discussed the impact of being a lead actress on television and how it affects her interactions with fans.
Many viewers, including myself, are really impressed with Kaitlin Olson’s performance in what could be her most significant TV role yet. The show High Potential has kept a large portion of its original audience throughout 2025, especially when counting viewers who record and watch later, meaning millions now know her as a consultant for the LAPD with an incredible memory. Olson recently told Esquire that Super Bowl Sunday 2025 is now her favorite day ever, all thanks to the show’s fans.
Olson pointed out, with a touch of humor, that she’s now hearing fans cheer for her instead of just shouting “Shut up, Bird!” – which is what she usually hears from devoted Always Sunny viewers. She actually appreciates it, understanding it comes from a place of affection. The show High Potential even playfully acknowledged her “Bird” nickname in a recent episode, and Olson is happy to see fans expressing themselves in a more positive way.
She also mentioned how wonderful it was to see so many fans who didn’t even realize calling her “Bird” was a natural, automatic thing – a habit people just have.
My book, High Potential, had just been released, and I was gaining a lot of new readers who only knew me as Morgan. It was a really exciting experience! They weren’t aware of my previous work as Rob at all.
Since It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia first aired 20 years ago, and throughout her 17-year marriage to Rob McElhenney (now known as Rob Mac), Kaitlin Olson has probably encountered many fans who seemed more interested in him. They playfully tease each other, so he likely enjoys reminding her of this whenever he can. Knowing their dynamic, it’s likely she found it amusing – and maybe a little satisfying – to be surrounded by fans who mistakenly thought he was her assistant or caretaker.
As long as people don’t ask Kaitlin Olson to remember all the random details her character, Morgan Gillory, throws around, I think we’ll be okay.
When asked why viewers connect with her character on High Potential, Olson suggested there are several factors at play, explaining that:
Many people find Morgan relatable. It’s refreshing to see someone who appears capable but is also realistically flawed – a great mom who still struggles with her own life. She’s down-to-earth and doesn’t boast about her intelligence, which makes her approachable. She simply focuses on doing her best for her kids and ensuring they’re well. For a lot of parents, their children’s happiness becomes the most important thing, and that likely contributes to why people connect with her.
Most people understand why someone wouldn’t want to be publicly nicknamed “Bird” in an airport. And many viewers are disappointed that the first half of High Potential has finished and there’s a long wait – until 2026 – for the rest of the season. The show will return to ABC on Tuesday, January 6th, and all previous episodes are currently available to stream on Hulu.
