Following the huge success of Godzilla Minus One two years ago, the legendary monster’s story will continue. The 2023 film was a major financial success, earning $113 million around the world despite being made with a relatively small budget of $10-15 million.
Beyond its huge success at the box office, Godzilla Minus One received incredible reviews. It boasts a 99% rating from critics and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many calling it one of the best Godzilla movies ever made.
As a huge Godzilla fan, I was thrilled to hear the news from Godzilla Fest 2025 in Tokyo! Takashi Yamazaki, the director behind the incredible Minus One, is coming back to direct another film – Godzilla Minus Zero! What’s even more exciting is that he’ll be handling directing, writing, and the visual effects, just like he did with Minus One. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!
The logo for Minus Zero has been unveiled, alongside the title. It features a striking, brushstroke-style design, created by the same artist, Yamazaki, who designed the logo for Minus One. You can see the new logo and announcement video below.
I’m so excited for the next Godzilla film! We don’t know much about the story or when it’ll come out yet, but the title, Minus Zero, really suggests it’s a direct continuation of Minus One. Plus, having Yamazaki back as director and Toho Studios involved makes it even more likely. It’s not official yet, but everything points in that direction, and I can’t wait to find out more!
This news follows up on an update from February about a sequel to Godzilla Minus One. Director Yamazaki mentioned he was developing the script and storyboards for a new kaiju film. He anticipates a larger budget from Toho, the studio also behind Minus Zero.
It’s no surprise Toho is continuing with this winning formula, as Minus One is widely considered the best Godzilla film in years and has connected with viewers around the world. The film has received many awards both internationally and domestically, including a historic first for an Asian film: winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
As much as I’m excited for Minus Zero, it’s not the only Godzilla movie coming up! The MonsterVerse is bringing Godzilla back too, in a new film called Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. We’ll finally get to see it in theaters on March 26, 2027, and I’m already counting down the days!
Right now, everyone’s attention is focused on Godzilla Minus One and the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero. Now that the new movie’s title and logo are out, we can expect to hear details about the story and when it will be released pretty soon.
