James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, is quick to correct anyone who gets details wrong about DC’s characters. Recently, he corrected a major news organization after they mistakenly referred to Sabrina Carpenter’s Wonder Woman outfit as a “Superwoman” look.
James Gunn reacts to Sabrina Carpenter’s Wonder Woman suit being called Superwoman
Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her Halloween show at Madison Square Garden in New York with a dazzling entrance. She walked onto the stage covered in a sparkly sheet, then revealed a Wonder Woman costume that looked straight out of the comics.
Okay, so Variety reported on Sabrina Carpenter’s outfit while she was out in NYC, but they totally got it wrong! They said she was dressed as Superwoman when she was actually rocking a look inspired by John Carpenter – you know, the director! It was a bit of a mix-up, and as a film buff, I immediately noticed it wasn’t a DC reference at all.
I saw this post, and it was so cool that James Gunn—the director who’s now working on the Wonder Woman movie for DC—actually noticed it! Being James Gunn, he immediately and hilariously called out Variety for calling her ‘Superwoman’ with just a simple, ‘Superwoman?!’ It was classic Gunn!
Carpenter’s Wonder Woman costume was incredibly detailed, featuring red boots, a golden tiara and bracelets, and the Lasso of Truth – all inspired by Lynda Carter’s portrayal of Princess Diana in the 1976 television series. However, some online viewers criticized her blonde hair, as Wonder Woman is traditionally known for having dark brown hair.
Sabrina Carpenter faced some debate about her hair color in relation to Wonder Woman, so Gal Gadot herself stepped in to support her. Gadot posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) saying that Wonder Woman exists within everyone, and sometimes, that Wonder Woman has blonde hair, just like Carpenter!
During her performance of “Manchild,” Carpenter notably dressed as Wonder Woman, and her dancers wore unique costumes, with one even appearing as Storm. Throughout the show, the 26-year-old singer changed into several other outfits, including looks inspired by the Flintstones and Barbie.
