Twilight Star Gives Enthusiastic Response To Being Fancast In Prime Video’s Biggest Upcoming Fantasy Show: “I’m Obsessed”

Even two decades after the first book and seventeen years since the movies came out, Twilight still significantly influences pop culture, especially fantasy. While the films weren’t without criticism, they were a massive global success, launching the careers of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and revitalizing interest in vampires. This also led to a wave of young adult novels being adapted into franchises. The fantasy genre remains incredibly popular, and while many shows aim to be the next Game of Thrones, the current trend owes a lot to Twilight.

Romantasy—fantasy novels with a strong romantic focus—has quickly become incredibly popular and a major sales driver in the book world. Leading the charge is Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing, the first book in The Empyrean Series, which is being adapted into a TV show by Prime Video. The story is set at a college in a fantastical realm where students are divided into four paths: Scribes, Healers, Infantry, and Dragon Riders. The central love story clearly draws inspiration from Twilight, and now the two worlds might connect even further. Mackenzie Foy, who played Renesmee in Twilight: Breaking Dawn, recently addressed fan casting her as the lead character, Violet Sorrengail, in the upcoming TV show, telling Teen Vogue:

I absolutely love it – it has everything: magic, dragons, the works! I’m a huge fan, and it’s incredibly flattering that people want me to play the character Violet. Ultimately, the decision is up to the author, and I’m ready to take the role if she asks.

The Fantasy Genre Could Shift With Fourth Wing’s TV Show

It’s easy to understand why many fans want Foy to play Violet. She physically matches the book’s description with her fair skin, slender build, and dark hair. At 24, she’s the right age for the role (Violet begins at 20), and she has experience with similar fantasy projects, plus the talent to carry the show. While there’s no guarantee she’ll be cast, popular fan choices have come true before, and it would be exciting to see it happen – especially for a significant series in the fantasy TV world.

Many fantasy shows have tried to copy the style of Game of Thrones, focusing on being grand and realistic, sometimes to their own disadvantage. However, the popularity of romantasy novels, especially those discovered on BookTok, is changing things. This success proves there’s a huge audience for these stories, and studios and streaming services are eager to capitalize on it. Prime Video is adapting the popular series Powerless, and Netflix paid a significant amount for the rights to Quicksilver, another very successful book.

The upcoming Fourth Wing TV series has the potential to be huge. The latest book in the series, Onyx Storm, broke sales records, becoming the fastest-selling adult novel in two decades (according to The New York Times). While development has been slow, a new showrunner, Meredith Averill – known for her work on shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Locke & Key, and Wednesday – has recently joined the project. If the show succeeds, it could significantly boost the popularity of romantasy adaptations and further define the genre, especially if Emma Foy is cast, continuing the influence of Twilight on fantasy storytelling.
