Football Manager fans, this is your last chance to buy FM24

Now that Football Manager 26 is officially out, Sports Interactive has announced that Football Manager 2024 will no longer be available for purchase from digital stores.

FM26 marks the return of the game series after a two-year hiatus. The development team switched to the Unity engine, which unfortunately meant they had to cancel last year’s planned release.

Look, Sports Interactive really hyped up the Nintendo Switch version of Football Manager, saying it was a whole new beginning for the game. But honestly, as a player, it just hasn’t lived up to the expectations. It’s a bit disappointing, to be real.

Honestly, a lot of us are really struggling with the new UI. It just doesn’t feel as smooth or intuitive as the old one, and it’s missing some features that would make life so much easier. It also feels like they didn’t really use the screen space very well. We actually pointed out a lot of these same problems in our review of FM26, so it’s a bit disappointing to see them still present.

Because of this, most players were predicted to stick with FM24 for now, preferring to wait a few years for the next version to become more developed before making the switch.

However, not everyone will be able to buy the game for much longer. Sports Interactive has announced that Football Manager 2024 will begin being removed from online stores on November 5th, so now might be your last opportunity to get it.

Football Manager 2024 will be removed from Steam on November 5th at 4pm GMT and from the Epic Games Store at 2pm GMT, according to an announcement on the official FM website.

It looks like Football Manager 2024 has already been taken off Steam, even though the official deadline to buy it wasn’t until later. We noticed it was removed several hours early.

Okay, so here’s the deal with getting the game: you’ll still be able to find it on the Windows and Xbox stores, and play it with Game Pass, until November 16th at 10am UTC. If you’re on PlayStation 5 though, you’ve got until November 18th at 9am local time to grab it from the store, after that it’s going to be delisted.

Just a heads-up: the game will no longer be available for purchase after these dates, but if you already own it, you can keep playing without any interruptions.

SI is no stranger to delisting its previous games, especially from services like Game Pass.

Because FM26 has already sparked debate among players, this could be seen as a way to encourage them to try the new version.

Players who access Football Manager 2024 through Xbox Game Pass will now need to buy the game on its own if they want to keep playing, a change that many fans are likely to dislike.

It’s happened before: fans of the Football Manager series haven’t always immediately embraced new versions of the game.

When the football management game series changed from Championship Manager to Football Manager, a lot of players kept playing the older version, and many still prefer it even now.

It’s unclear if SI will change its mind, but this is likely to be another setback for the start of FM’s new direction.
