Brendan Fraser has made a remarkable return to acting after a period away. He recently won an Oscar for his performance in The Whale, appeared in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and is receiving praise for his upcoming role in Rental Family.
After his recent career comeback, it wasn’t surprising to hear he’d be revisiting his most famous character. Reports confirm that Brendan Fraser will return for a fourth Mummy movie, alongside Rachel Weisz.
Variety reported yesterday, November 4th, that the new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. The duo are well-regarded for their work in horror, including films like Ready or Not and the 2022 Scream reboot.
It’s been 17 years since Brendan Fraser last portrayed adventurer Rick O’Connell. The third ‘Mummy’ film, ‘Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ (2008), was poorly received, and Rachel Weisz didn’t reprise her role as Evelyn Carnahan; Maria Bello took her place.
I’ve been hearing rumors that the new movie will completely disregard everything that happened in the last one, but honestly, it’s all just speculation right now. Nothing’s been officially confirmed yet.

Many fans still love the first two ‘Mummy’ movies, released in 1999 and 2001, even though critics had mixed opinions. The upcoming fourth film aims to bring back that same enjoyable experience.
Universal tried to relaunch the franchise with a new approach in 2017, starring Tom Cruise in a movie planned as the first of a series called the Dark Universe.
It was really disappointing when the movie came out and everyone, both critics and audiences, hated it. Because of that, the studio decided to completely abandon the whole storyline and any plans for a follow-up were immediately dropped – which, honestly, wasn’t a surprise at all.

In 2022, while promoting his film The Whale, Fraser indicated he would consider reprising the role if a compelling idea was presented, as he told Variety he was “open to it” with the right concept.
The reports suggest someone has had a great idea for a new project, but we don’t know any specifics about the story or when it will be released yet. We’ll have to wait for more information.
We’ll certainly be on the hunt for any updates in the weeks and months ahead….
