The next major event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will bring together key heroes from the past three phases to face a new threat: Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Marvel has already announced a huge cast of twenty-seven characters, pulling from teams like the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and even the X-Men (previously from Fox). But many fans believe even more heroes will join the fight!
Now that filming for Doomsday is finished, it appears all the actors have completed their roles. However, several prominent Marvel stars have publicly stated they won’t be involved in the movie. They insist they won’t appear when Doomsday is released on December 18, 2026, but it’s hard to know if that’s true.
Jeremy Renner May Not Return as Hawkeye at All
Jeremy Renner has played Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than ten years, first appearing in the movie Thor back in 2011. Since then, his character became a key member of the Avengers and even starred in his own Disney+ series in 2021. However, it seems his time in the MCU might be coming to an end. Renner recently shared that he doesn’t expect to return, confirming this while promoting his show Mayor of Kingstown. Interestingly, his co-star Brie Larson playfully asked him if he’d be in a future film, and he jokingly responded, “Me? No, girl… are you?”
If this is true, it would be the second Avengers movie without Hawkeye, following Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. To make matters worse, Jeremy Renner recently revealed that Marvel offered him a very low amount to return for Season 2 of Hawkeye, which he found insulting. Renner questioned if his recent snowplow accident played a role in the low offer, but it’s still unclear why Marvel isn’t prioritizing more Hawkeye content. While reports indicate that Hawkeye Season 2 isn’t completely cancelled, fans shouldn’t anticipate seeing Clint Barton in Doomsday.
Oscar Isaac Doesn’t Know Where Moon Knight Will Appear Next
Oscar Isaac won over Marvel fans with his compelling performance as Marc Spector and Steven Grant in the Disney+ series Moon Knight. Many expected the character to become a key player in future Marvel storylines, possibly joining the Midnight Sons – a team of heroes who fight against supernatural dangers. However, Moon Knight hasn’t appeared since his show ended, leaving fans wondering what will happen to him next.
In a recent conversation with fans, Oscar Isaac indicated he doesn’t plan to reprise his role as Moon Knight in upcoming Marvel films like Doomsday or Secret Wars. This news is particularly disheartening for those who were excited about the possibility of seeing Moon Knight team up with other Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes for the first time. As the MCU is expected to refresh its storyline after the current Multiverse Saga, some fans are concerned that Oscar Isaac may have played Moon Knight for the last time.
Charlie Cox Definitely Said Daredevil Isn’t in Avengers: Doomsday
Charlie Cox has quickly become a major star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Though his popular series Daredevil ended three years ago, he made a triumphant return as the superhero in Spider-Man: No Way Home and has been a regular presence in the MCU ever since. Following appearances in No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo, Daredevil finally got his own Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, with a second season expected in early 2026.
Daredevil is currently a popular part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be joining the Avengers team in the near future. Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, has said he’d love to be in an Avengers movie, but it won’t be for a massive, world-ending event. He’s currently focused on the second season of Born Again, which finished filming earlier this year. Interestingly, Cox also stated he won’t be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a claim many fans doubt. It’s possible Cox is being misleading, and Daredevil could actually appear in more projects in 2026 than we currently expect.
Andrew Garfield Definitely Isn’t the Werewolf
Andrew Garfield continues to skillfully avoid answering questions about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He famously claimed he wasn’t in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, but then played a significant role in the film. Fans are still hoping to see more of his Spider-Man, and there’s speculation he might appear in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
While promoting his latest movie, After the Hunt, Andrew Garfield jokingly acknowledged his tendency to mislead fans about his role in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects. Despite repeatedly denying involvement, his appearance in No Way Home revealed he isn’t always truthful about these things. Now, fans will likely always question his connection to future MCU films and won’t take his answers at face value.
Halle Berry’s Storm Won’t Be Joining the Other X-Men
Several actors who starred in the original X-Men films on Fox are reprising their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, such as Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Ian McKellan as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. This has led fans to speculate about other familiar faces potentially appearing, including Halle Berry as Storm. However, Berry has confirmed she will not be involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After Halle Berry wasn’t mentioned in the cast announcement for Doomsday, people immediately began asking if she’d be involved. She playfully told them to “keep looking,” hinting she wouldn’t be listed among the actors. This made sense, as Berry had previously been unhappy with how her character, Storm, was used in the X-Men movies. If she didn’t believe Doomsday would offer a better role for Storm, it’s understandable she’d choose not to return.
Famke Janssen Says She Wasn’t Asked to Return as Jean Grey
As a huge Marvel fan, I was really disappointed to hear that Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday. It seems like almost everyone from the X-Men is going to be there, but sadly, it looks like we won’t be seeing the Phoenix. Famke Janssen herself has said we shouldn’t expect her to make an appearance, which is a real bummer!
While publicizing her new show, Amsterdam Empire, actress Janssen stated that Marvel hadn’t contacted her about returning for Doomsday. However, many of her former colleagues are confirmed to be in the film, making her claim a bit hard to believe. It would be surprising if smaller roles were cast but Marvel didn’t even consider asking Janssen to reprise her iconic role as Phoenix. Though Janssen might be truthful, fans shouldn’t completely rule out a potential, unannounced appearance in Doomsday.
Chris Evans Is Lying to Us About Avengers: Doomsday
Although Chris Evans has said he’s finished playing Captain America after Avengers: Endgame, he’s been talking a lot about the upcoming Doomsday movie. He even admitted to feeling “left out” seeing many of his former Avengers co-stars returning for more films. Despite his claims, many fans suspect he’ll actually be in the next Avengers movie.
Chris Evans was originally reported to be one of the first actors confirmed for the movie Avengers: Doomsday. A late 2024 article in The Hollywood Reporter stated that he and Haley Atwell would return as their characters. However, Evans has repeatedly said he isn’t involved. Even though he denies it and wasn’t included in the official cast list, many fans still believe he will appear in the film.
