More details on the events leading up to Marshawn Kneeland‘s death have surfaced.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end tragically died on the morning of November 6th in what authorities believe was a suicide. This came just hours after he was involved in a car chase in Texas.

According to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 24-year-old Kneeland didn’t pull over when troopers tried to stop him for a traffic violation on November 5th.

According to the statement, troopers lost track of the vehicle and ended the chase. The vehicle was later found abandoned after crashing on Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway.

On November 6th, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Frisco police found Kneeland’s body after searching the area around their vehicle, officials said.

Frisco police stated in a separate announcement that during their search for the football player, they discovered Kneeland had previously talked about suicide.

Frisco police stated they are not releasing any more information right now because the investigation is still active. They also expressed their deepest sympathy to the Kneeland family and friends.

The Cowboys released a statement on November 6th saying Marshawn was a well-loved teammate and part of their organization. They expressed their support and prayers for his girlfriend, Catalina, and his family during this difficult time.

Kneeland’s agent Jonathan Perzley also paid tribute, calling the athlete his “dearest friend.”

Perzley shared on Instagram that he remembered watching Marshawn Kneeland grow from an optimistic college player at Western Michigan into a well-regarded professional with the Dallas Cowboys. He described Kneeland as someone who gave his all to football, always playing with passion and dedication. Perzley said it’s incredibly difficult to express how much it hurts to lose someone with so much talent, kindness, and positive energy.

Marshawn Kneeland‘s football career started long before his time at the NFL.

While in high school in Michigan, Marshawn had a standout senior year, excelling on both sides of the ball. He made 110 tackles and 8 sacks playing defense, and also contributed significantly on offense with 20 catches for 330 yards and 5 touchdowns.

After finishing school, Marshawn went to Western Michigan University and played football for four years. During that time, he made 149 tackles and 12.5 sacks.

While at school, this athlete was known for his incredible dedication. He spent as much time as possible practicing and studying game film to improve his skills.

According to his coach, David Denham, that’s when he began to really pull ahead of the competition.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Marshawn in the second round of 2024, and team owner Jerry Jones famously told him, “We’re going to put a star on that helmet.”

The young athlete was determined to enjoy every second of the experience. “This is something I’ll never forget,” he shared about draft night, “and I’m just thrilled to be a part of it.”

Marshawn carried his strong work ethic with him when he joined the NFL and began preparing for his rookie season.

As for how he was approaching the NFL, Marshawn just wanted to stick to his game plan. 

As a fan, I was so excited to hear him talk after the draft! He basically said he’s going to play the same way he always has – super energetic, really fast, and always giving 110%. He’s all about being physical and having incredible stamina, and ultimately, he just wants to make impactful plays on the field. That’s exactly what we need!

During his time with the Texas team, the 24-year-old player participated in 18 games, starting four of them. He finished with a total of 26 tackles and one sack.

Just days before his death, Marshawn scored his first touchdown in the league. 

According to his agent, Jonathan Perzley, Marshawn Beast Mode Lynch gave everything he had to football, playing with passion in every practice and game. Perzley expressed immense grief, saying it’s incredibly difficult to describe the pain of losing someone with such talent, character, and kindness.
