The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for a major team-up of its most powerful heroes. With the Avengers sidelined for a while, two new teams are now competing to carry the mantle, each packed with incredible strength. Sentry will be enforcing the rules for the New Avengers, and Sam Wilson (the new Captain America) plans to call on Thor and Shang-Chi when the events of Avengers: Doomsday begin. However, they won’t have much time for disagreements, because the powerful Doctor Doom is about to emerge as a huge threat. The Fantastic Four and X-Men are also entering the battle, bringing along formidable allies like Franklin Richards, Sue Storm, Magneto, and Professor X.
With so many heroes needed, some of the MCU’s most powerful characters, like Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange, surprisingly aren’t involved in the upcoming conflict. It’s especially strange considering they both recently had their own movies. Another strong hero had their moment in the spotlight on Disney+, but unlike others, there seems to be no way for them to rejoin the fight, even though the situation feels urgent.
The MCU’s Most Controversial Show Houses One of Its Strongest Characters

Disney+’s Marvel shows have been met with mixed reactions. Many feel like required viewing because they significantly impact the overall storyline – for example, WandaVision connects to both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Agatha All Along series. However, one show that Disney seems eager to move past is Secret Invasion. Starring Nick Fury, the series centers on a conflict between two factions of Skrulls. Fury is partially responsible for the Skrulls’ struggles, and Gravik is determined to get revenge.
Fury turns to his friend Talos for assistance, but Talos is dealing with family issues that limit what he can do. His daughter, G’iah, appears to be working with the villain Gravik, seemingly threatening Earth unless her demands are met. However, it’s revealed that G’iah is actually a spy, working from within to take down Gravik’s plans. Ultimately, Gravik proves to be beyond reason, so G’iah takes matters into her own hands, injecting herself with the Harvest – a powerful DNA cocktail containing genetic material from heroes like Captain Marvel and even Thanos. She defeats Gravik, saving the world. Despite this heroic victory and setting the stage for a promising future, Marvel Studios hasn’t yet found another role for G’iah in the MCU.
The MCU Doesn’t Know What to Do With OP Characters

It’s easy to blame the poor reception of Secret Invasion for G’iah’s limited role in recent MCU projects. The show received negative reviews, with many criticizing its story and some surprising plot twists. However, that’s likely not the real reason she’s been sidelined. The bigger issue is that G’iah is simply too powerful. It’s hard for the MCU to find villains who could realistically challenge her, and it would take a lot of work – either weakening her or significantly strengthening her opponents – to create compelling stories. Given that she’s only appeared in one series, that effort might not be worth it.
G’iah isn’t the only character facing challenges. Even though Thunderbolts focuses on Sentry’s immense power, he ends up sidelined by the movie’s end. Weakening him is likely a strategic move to prevent Doctor Doom or other future villains in Doomsday from appearing too easily defeated. While it’s unfortunate for a character still developing within the franchise, it’s a common practice in these types of stories.
