2025 has been a fantastic year for gaming, with incredible titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Gamers have had a lot to enjoy, and the upcoming games scheduled for 2026 look even more promising.
2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for RPG fans, with both exciting remakes of beloved games and sequels we’ve been waiting for. Here’s a look at some of the best RPGs coming in 2026, plus a few other promising titles still in development.
Code Vein 2 Launches On January 30
The world of Code Vein is full of interesting stories, so the announcement of Code Vein II is really exciting. Players will be able to explore the broken world and complex history even further, and the combat system sounds fantastic – you gain new skills and improve existing ones by collecting enemy blood, which should make battles more strategic and rewarding.
Fans of role-playing games will love how much you can customize your character in this game – early previews of the character creator show a deep level of detail. With its cool combat, immersive world, and emphasis on letting players create their own unique style, Code Vein II looks set to be a major RPG release in 2026, and could define the year for the genre.
Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Comes Out On February 9th
Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined is the latest remake from Square Enix, and it looks set to be a big success. Following the positive reception of previous remakes, it’s great to see another Dragon Quest game getting a similar update. The story stays the same, but many improvements have been made to enhance the player experience, most notably a complete visual overhaul.
As a long-time fan, I have to say the art style in this remake is incredible! The developers actually scanned real dolls to get this look, and it really feels like something special – it reminds me of those classic Rankin-Bass holiday specials, but with a modern twist. What’s even better is that this handcrafted feel isn’t just for the main characters; the whole game world is beautiful. They kept everything I loved about the original, but added this amazing new look that I think will bring a whole new group of players to what is already one of the best games in the series.
Nioh 3 Releases On February 3
Okay, so I got to play the Nioh 3 demo, and wow, it feels amazing! Seriously, this game is a huge step up from Nioh 2. I really liked the last one, but it never quite grabbed a wider audience, you know? This sequel though? With the graphics and the fact that it’s now an open world, I think it could really blow up and get the series the recognition it deserves. I’m super excited to explore everything!
The ability to switch between Samurai and Ninja styles promises incredibly diverse combat in Nioh 3. Paired with the game’s open-world exploration, it’s looking like a top release for early 2026 and seems to be exactly what fans have wanted all along.
Crimson Desert Finally Comes Out On March 19
After a long development process, Crimson Desert is almost here! The recent announcement during the PlayStation State of Play confirmed that the game will be released soon. It’s a remarkably ambitious project, featuring a huge and beautiful world created using Unreal Engine 5 that looks incredibly immersive and endlessly explorable.
Okay, so the game looks amazing, but what really grabbed me is how it feels familiar, like a cool mix of Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild. But it doesn’t just copy those games – it takes inspiration from them and does its own thing. If everything clicks, I honestly think Crimson Desert could be a huge release in 2026, and maybe even a Game of the Year winner. I’m really excited about it!
Fable Could Be The Massive Win That Xbox Needs
For Xbox, the success of Fable is crucial. It’s great to see Playground Games taking over a series that hasn’t had a new installment since 2012. Everything we’ve seen so far perfectly captures the original Fable‘s unique personality. The game still has its signature humor and lighthearted feel, but now with updated graphics and improved gameplay, which could attract a new generation of players.
With Game Pass becoming more expensive and fewer games exclusive to Xbox consoles, the brand needs a big hit. Currently, Fable seems like it could be that game. Since Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t coming out until November 2026, Fable has a great chance to attract a huge number of players next year.
Beast Of Reincarnation Could Be Game Freak’s Best Game Yet
It’s amazing to realize that Beast of Reincarnation is Game Freak’s first big-budget game beyond the Pokémon series. They’ve tried smaller, indie-style games before, but this feels like a significant leap forward. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is still exciting, but it’s great to see something new and different.
This new project is being compared to the acclaimed film Princess Mononoke, so expectations are high. The graphics look fantastic, with a level of detail Pokémon fans haven’t typically seen from the game studio. While they don’t need to make their main Pokémon games look like this, it’s great to see Game Freak trying something different visually. The announcement of Beast of Reincarnation was a pleasant surprise, and now everyone is eager to see if the game lives up to the hype.
Blood Of The Dawnwalker Is Coming From The Witcher 3 Director
The upcoming game Blood of the Dawnwalker is generating a lot of excitement, largely because it’s led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, a director of the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Early marketing highlights the game’s focus on player choice and diverse gameplay, allowing you to play as a skilled warrior during the day or a powerful vampire at night. Like The Witcher 3, the game promises multiple solutions for every quest.
What really makes this game stand out is its 30-day time limit. Each action you take moves the game forward, so you have to decide whether to focus on the story or improve your character skills – all while time is running out. This creates a sense of urgency that makes you want to play the game again and again to see what happens. Blood of the Dawnwalker is a role-playing game that players should definitely add to their list.
The Witcher 4 Could Be Another Defining Title for the Genre
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a huge success that inspired many other role-playing games. Since its release in 2015, numerous games have tried to copy its detailed stories, expansive worlds, and engaging quests. The recent trailer for The Witcher 4, shown at last year’s Game Awards, has made fans even more excited. The decision to make Ciri the main character is particularly interesting, and it will be great to see how her unique skills and point of view differ from Geralt’s.
Gamers are eagerly anticipating a return to the grim and fantastical world of The Witcher, filled with quests, monster hunting, and dangerous contracts. The trailer’s dramatic scene of Ciri fighting a monster gives a great preview of the game’s intense atmosphere and action. While fans would love to see it released next year, 2027 seems like a more likely release timeframe for The Witcher 4.
The Elder Scrolls VI Release Date Still Hasn’t Been Announced
Besides GTA VI, Elder Scrolls VI is the game people are most excited about. We haven’t heard much news since it was first announced in 2018. Now that Bethesda has released Starfield, development on Elder Scrolls VI is officially underway, but fans are eager for updates. After numerous re-releases of Skyrim, players are really looking forward to a new installment in the series.
It’s likely we won’t see Elder Scrolls VI until 2028 at the earliest. Fans are hoping the next Xbox Games Showcase will offer a preview of what Bethesda is working on. That would mean a nearly ten-year wait, but the final game has the potential to be incredible. While we still have a long wait ahead, there’s optimism that more information will be shared in the near future.
