Now that Halloween is over, there’s still plenty of spooky content coming with IT: Welcome to Derry. This new series, directed by Andy Muschietti, brings another Stephen King story to life on HBO and HBO Max. I was hooked after the first episode – it’s genuinely scary – and I’ve been telling everyone to watch it, and their reactions have been fantastic!
Even though I was hoping Welcome to Derry would have come out sooner in October, the first two episodes were so good and scary that it was worth the wait. I was shocked by the end of the first episode, especially when most of the young characters we’d been following were killed by that terrifying creature. After I recovered, I started telling everyone how much I enjoyed Muschietti’s series, and I was glad to see they felt the same way.
Everyone Who Has Tried Welcome To Derry Has Loved It
When the first two episodes of Welcome to Derry came out around Halloween, I immediately told my friends they had to watch it. I recommended it to both serious horror fans and people who just enjoy a good scare – everyone could use a few frights during the holiday!
While critics liked IT: Welcome to Derry, the most important reaction was from the fans. I’m happy to report that everyone I suggested it to enjoyed the series. I even received fantastic texts after the scary first episode, like these:
Thank you for this reco. The first episode was 🔥and scratched the itch I have been looking for lol
A friend who doesn’t usually watch horror joined me for the second episode on Halloween (thanks to HBO for the early access!), and even he was hooked. He hid his eyes during some parts, but the show has enough genuine scares and emotional depth that he really enjoyed it. I’m hoping others feel the same way so the series gets renewed!

HBO Max offers streaming plans starting at $10.99 per month. It’s the place to watch popular franchises like IT and Welcome to Derry, and a subscription gives you access to a wide variety of movies, shows, documentaries, and more. See the deal here.
Honestly, I wasn’t totally shocked to hear how good this new series is. Andy Muschietti did such a fantastic job with the IT movies, they were some of the best horror I’ve seen in ages. But what really got me is how dangerous things are for everyone, even the kids! A friend of mine was absolutely floored by the first episode – he texted me right after, completely shocked by how brutally Teddy, Phil, and Susie were killed. It just feels like no one is safe, and that makes every episode incredibly tense.
Fucking LOVE IT. What an ending to that first episode.
HBO’s new show, Welcome to Derry, is quickly becoming a hit, drawing in a large audience. The premiere attracted 5.7 million viewers in its first three days, putting it among HBO’s most successful launches, like those of House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Even though the terrifying Pennywise hasn’t been featured much yet, many expect the show to become even more popular once Bill Skarsgård’s character truly takes center stage.

I’ve recommended Welcome to Derry to so many friends that I’m excited it’s become a topic everyone’s talking about. I have a group of people to discuss each episode with and share what frightened us the most. I’m really glad the show is released weekly instead of all at once, because I want these fun conversations to keep going! And I’m still telling even more people to watch it.
You can watch new episodes of IT: Welcome to Derry on HBO every Sunday as part of the 2025 television lineup. I’m really looking forward to seeing the frightening and intense moments in each episode.
