Fans have a lot to look forward to! New photos, a trailer, and the release date have all been revealed, and the new season is scheduled to premiere as a New Year’s gift.

Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman will be back as Jonathan Pine and Angela Burr in the new season. While some familiar faces will return, the story will primarily focus on new characters played by actors like Diego Calva, known from Narcos: Mexico, and Camila Morrone, who starred in Daisy Jones & The Six.

Season 2 will draw inspiration from John le Carré’s 1993 novel, but it will feature an original story, as there wasn’t a sequel to the book. David Farr, the show’s creator, is writing the season, and Georgi Banks-Davies, a BAFTA winner known for directing shows like I Hate Suzie and Paper Girls, will be directing.

Will there be a second season of The Night Manager?

Great news! The Night Manager has been renewed for both season 2 and season 3!

When news of a second season of The Night Manager was announced, Charlotte Moore, who was then BBC Chief Content Officer, expressed her excitement, stating that after years of rumors, the show would return for two more series.

Simon and Stephen Cornwell, who manage The Ink Factory (the production company founded by their father, John le Carré), explained that continuing the story of the character Pine involves expanding beyond the original novel. They emphasized this wasn’t a decision they made easily, but they were drawn in by the strength of the characters and the director’s compelling ideas for what happens next.

I was concerned about not being able to top my previous work or falling short, but I’m confident someone else will do a fantastic job with it.

When will The Night Manager season 2 be released?

Fans have been waiting nearly ten years, but The Night Manager will be back for a second season on Thursday, January 1st, 2026. You can watch it on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.

The new season will be available worldwide on Prime Video, except in the UK, through a distribution deal with Fifth Season. Viewers outside the UK can start watching on Sunday, January 11th.

The Night Manager cast — who will be back for season 2?

Tom Hiddleston, known for playing Loki, will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine in the upcoming season, where he’ll confront a dangerous new threat.

Olivia Colman and Alistair Petrie will reprise their roles as Angela Burr and Sandy Langbourne, respectively. Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe are also returning as Rex Mayhew, Frisky, and Daniel Roper.

The film will introduce several new and interesting characters, including Diego Calva (known for Narcos: Mexico), Camila Morrone (from Daisy Jones & The Six), Indira Varma (Doctor Who), Paul Chahidi (Wicked Little Letters), and Hayley Squires (Adult Material).

Tom Hollander probably won’t be back, as his character, Corky, was killed off in season one. Reports suggest Elizabeth Debicki also won’t return as Jed, with Camila Morrone potentially taking over the role.

Debicki portrayed Jemima ‘Jed’ Marshall, who was in a relationship with and having an affair with Richard Roper, a character played by Hugh Laurie.

What will happen in The Night Manager season 2?

In season two of The Night Manager, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) believed he’d left his dangerous past behind. Now going by the name Alex Goodwin, he’s settled into a peaceful, routine life working a low-key surveillance job for MI6 in London.

One night, Pine unexpectedly spots a former Roper mercenary, which sets things in motion and quickly throws him into a dangerous confrontation with Teddy Dos Santos, a businessman from Colombia (played by Diego Calva).

Okay, so Pine’s back, and this time he’s landed himself in Colombia! He teams up with Roxana Bolaños, played by Camila Morrone, a savvy businesswoman who’s not thrilled about getting involved, but ultimately helps him go undercover to take down Teddy’s dangerous arms dealing. Let me tell you, things escalate fast. He quickly finds himself tangled in a really nasty plot – we’re talking weapons, training a guerrilla army, the whole nine yards. It’s a high-stakes situation, and Pine is right in the middle of it.

With loyalties breaking down, Pine is in a desperate race to uncover a plot to wreck the country. Facing betrayal everywhere he looks, he needs to figure out who he can trust and how much he’s willing to risk to stop it before time runs out.

The new season takes place eight years after the first one. Tom Hiddleston shared with Deadline that he’s excited to show how the characters have lived and changed over those years, and hopes the show will reflect that passage of time.

Jonathan Pine, the character Le Carré created, feels very real to me. Since the first series, about eight or nine years have passed for both him and myself, and I’m incredibly excited to explore how he’s evolved. I’m eager to see what he’s up to, how he’s changed – or stayed the same – and, most importantly, to recapture the same strong connection between the characters that we achieved before.

Tom Hiddleston explained that the gap between seasons was used to ensure the story was as good as it could be.

Honestly, one of the biggest weights off our shoulders was how pleased John le Carré was with our first adaptation – that was a huge relief. So, going forward, we knew we had to find another story that really deserved to be told. What I find so captivating about Le Carré is that his best stories always seemed to grow organically from his observations of the world around him.
