Even before the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, The Pokemon Company announced its first downloadable content expansion, Mega Dimension. Shortly after the game launched, a new trailer provided more details about this DLC, including new Mega Evolutions, characters, and story elements. With the Mega Dimension expansion scheduled for release on December 10th, it appears that even more DLC is planned for Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
The new DLC, Mega Dimension, is different for Pokémon games because it was announced and released before the main game even came out. Considering Pokémon Legends: Arceus didn’t receive any DLC, it seems Legends: Z-A will be more like a traditional Pokémon game. This, along with other hints, makes me think we’ll see more story-based DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A in the future.
Story Content for the Mega Dimension DLC Is Dropping Sooner Than Expected

I was so excited when Mega Dimension was announced, but at first, we didn’t know much about it! We found out there’d be two waves of new outfits – Holo X and Holo Y – and if you pre-ordered the DLC, you could get them starting on October 16th. The other big thing was supposed to be extra story content, and the trailers hinted it would involve Hoopa, but they didn’t say when we’d actually get to play it. It was all a bit mysterious!
Many of us, including myself, previously saw a release date for the new story content. The Nintendo eShop page for Mega Dimension initially listed February 28th, 2026, but that has now been changed to December 10th. It’s unclear why the earlier date was displayed in the first place.
Since February 28th comes right after Pokémon Day, the initial release date might have just been temporary. It’s also possible that extra story content was originally intended for February but was delayed. Or, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company could have a surprise planned for Pokémon Day 2026 – perhaps more new story content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
2 DLC Per Game May Be the New Pokemon Standard

Unlike Legends: Arceus, the newest Legends game will likely include downloadable content. The two most recent main series Pokémon games, Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet, both received substantial story expansions after release – Sword & Shield with two parts, and Scarlet & Violet with The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. This suggests the new Legends game will follow a similar pattern and offer additional story content as DLC.
Based on recent releases, future mainline Pokémon games will likely include two story-based DLC packs. While it’s not certain if Pokémon Legends: Z-A will follow this trend, a past Nintendo eShop listing with a February 28th date is making me wonder. If new story content arrives just months after the game’s launch, it suggests even more content could be planned. Otherwise, a short period between release and new story DLC would be unusual, given the February date suggests a longer lifespan.
Currently, the Mega Dimension update includes the Holo Wear and the initial set of new story content. Given that other downloadable content packs are split into two parts, I expect a second wave of new story content to be revealed around Pokémon Day in 2026.
You can now play Pokemon Legends: Z-A on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The Mega Dimension downloadable content, which continues the story, will be available on December 10th and is currently available for pre-order at a price of $29.99.
