A major villain from the original The Boys series is at the center of a new mystery that will be solved in the show’s fifth and final season. The Boys is ending in 2026 with season 5, wrapping up the intense conflict between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Homelander (Anthony Starr), and their teams. Season 5 will also reveal answers to questions that surfaced in season 2 of the spin-off Gen V, bringing back a well-known and popular enemy from the The Boys universe.
Season four of The Boys concluded with Butcher developing cancer-based superpowers and using them to kill Vice President Victoria Neuman. Following the public reveal of Neuman’s powers, Sister Sage manipulated the situation, leading to the President’s arrest for attempted murder. The new President then imposed martial law and granted Homelander presidential powers, significantly increasing his control. Season two of Gen V offered a look at the world under Homelander’s rule, while also showing that key characters are still actively opposing his dangerous influence.
Stan Edgar Was One of The Boys’ Most Powerful Villains

In season 2 of Gen V, Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) subtly opposed Homelander. Viewers first met Edgar in season 1 of The Boys, where he was the CEO of Vought International and Madelyn Stillwell’s (Elisabeth Shue) boss. This role made him incredibly powerful, but his influence began to wane when he started directly managing Vought and the Seven after Stillwell’s death. Edgar is a calm, strategic, and unforgiving character, making him a formidable opponent and earning him numerous enemies.
Stan Edgar was remarkably unafraid of Homelander, confidently challenging the leader of the Seven. Though he controlled Vought from behind the scenes, he was eventually imprisoned due to his scheming and illegal activities, particularly after his adopted daughter, Neuman, betrayed him and helped Homelander rise to power. Edgar played a key role in distributing both Compound V and Temp V, and later assisted the Boys in their search for the Supe Virus, making him a consistently valuable figure throughout the series.
Gen V Season 2 Left Stan Edgar’s Intentions & Future Unclear

Season 2 of Gen V continued the trend of well-timed appearances, with Stan Edgar arriving just when the group of rebellious Godolkin University students needed help after their battle with Vikor (Tait Fletcher). Zoe Neuman (Olivia Morandin) ultimately killed Vikor, and then, with her grandfather, led the young Supes to a secret underground bunker, hiding them from Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater). Edgar shared the details of Project Odessa with Maria Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), suggesting she could be the key to stopping Homelander, though his own fate remains uncertain at the end of the season.
While it hasn’t been officially announced, Giancarlo Esposito’s character is likely to return in season 5 of The Boys, especially after his appearance in Gen V. He seems determined to stop Homelander, even hinting that Thomas Godolkin might have been able to do so. However, it’s unclear how he’ll go about it, making Stan Edgar a major unknown factor in the upcoming season. He could team up with the Boys and Marie’s group to defeat Homelander, or he might be working only for himself, trying to regain control of Vought.
Stan Edgar Can Be a Key Part of The Boys’ Upcoming Spinoffs

Since Stan Edgar has been a part of The Boys from the beginning and recently appeared in the Gen V spin-off, it’s likely he’ll be back for season 5. This could involve him directly confronting Homelander, or even Marie Moreau, another person who went through Project Odessa. However, Stan Edgar’s story might not end with the fifth and final season of The Boys. With several other spin-off shows planned, there’s potential to explore his character much further.
After showing us Soldier Boy’s origins and the villainous past of Stormfront, the series Vought Rising seems to be set a bit too early in the timeline to include Stan Edgar. Edgar didn’t join Vought until the 1980s, but the show could briefly hint at his future connection with Soldier Boy, potentially bringing actor Carl Esposito back for more appearances. Similarly, the spin-off The Boys: Mexico could reveal how Stan Edgar’s influence extends to Supes around the world, suggesting this is just the start of Edgar’s story within The Boys universe.
