The Tokyo Game Show, Japan’s largest gaming event, has revealed the complete roster of video game companies planning to exhibit at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, where they will unveil fresh updates and displays about their upcoming releases.
The list is stacked, containing more than 772 businesses from 46 different countries, spread across approximately 4,083 exhibition areas. This surpasses last year’s record of 3,252 booths, making Tokyo Game Show 2025 the largest event in their history to date.
At the Tokyo Game Show, it has been officially announced (via the Gameastu share of a translated post from the event’s site), that Microsoft is expected to attend and unveil fresh information about their Xbox games, as well as potentially introduce some new upcoming Xbox titles.
At Tokyo Game Show 2025, numerous other well-known gaming companies such as Sony, Sega, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, and several others will also be present.
Tokyo Game Show 2025 will begin on September 25, 2025, and will last until September 28, 2025.
Xbox is looking in a much more dire state compared to last year’s Tokyo Game Show
When Microsoft appeared at 2024’s Tokyo Game Show, it announced so much great news at the event.
We’ve acquired the Xbox version of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, a visually appealing indie JRPG reminiscent of Chrono Trigger called Threads of Time. Also, the original Starcraft series is coming to PC Game Pass. Plus, we have new previews for Metaphor: ReFantazio and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (expected to be among the top games in 2024). There’s even more exciting news!
Fast forward nearly a year, and Xbox is now looking in more dire straits.
Although it’s been exciting to see games like Ninja Gaiden return on Xbox and the long-awaited arrivals of Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake, Microsoft’s gaming division has suffered some significant setbacks.
Recently, the company has taken some significant steps, including letting go of more than 9,000 employees, shutting down the studio responsible for the Perfect Dark reboot, halting the release of Rare’s Everwild project, scrapping a new intellectual property from ZeniMax, and terminating a project that Romero Games was developing without prior notice.
The latest downsizing of Microsoft’s Xbox gaming sector, which is a move to strengthen their AI structure through an $80 billion investment plan, has caused deep sadness and frustration within the Xbox community.
It’s become challenging for gamers to rely on what Xbox claims about the certain release of their future titles, leading some to question if Xbox Game Pass can sustain itself financially.
As a tech enthusiast, I’ve got to say, it seems Microsoft’s reputation among Xbox gamers has taken a hit lately. To regain our good graces, they’ll have to pull out all the stops at major events like Tokyo Game Show 2025 and Gamescom 2025. They need to show us something spectacular!
Typically, I prefer to concentrate on the games themselves when it comes to video games, rather than delving into their corporate aspects. However, due to Microsoft’s recent moves, it’s growing more challenging for me to overlook this matter as well.
I’m personally rooting for Xbox to discover a solution that helps them climb out of this slump they’re in and regain the love of their fans. This is particularly significant now that we’re witnessing more PlayStation games being ported to Xbox, such as Helldivers 2, which might also bring over these seven other PlayStation titles. Additionally, the Xbox market for JRPGs is flourishing with series like Persona, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Like a Dragon among others.
As an avid gamer, I deeply cherish my Xbox gaming experiences, particularly the camaraderie I share with my friends during our gameplay sessions. The recent corporate decisions by Microsoft in the gaming industry have left a sour taste, potentially causing my friends to disengage. This unfortunate scenario leaves me yearning to play exciting titles like Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and the soon-to-be-released Xbox port of Helldivers 2 alone, despite my preference for shared gaming moments with friends.
Regardless of the outcome, we’ll need to wait and find out what the years ahead might bring for Microsoft’s gaming sector, whether it’s positive or negative. At the Tokyo Game Show 2025, we can expect some exciting new developments from them.
