Admittedly, Terry Dubrow doesn’t always preach what he practices.
Certainly, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon with a thriving practice due to his surgical work. However, being an experienced revision surgeon, he’s all too familiar with the potential complications that may arise from such procedures. In other words, he knows surgery can sometimes go awry.
As a die-hard fan, I’d put myself right there alongside Terry, the proud father of Heather Dubrow’s four beautiful kids – Nick, Max, Kat, and Ace. When Nick and Max, the twins who are 21, asked me about getting their lips done, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of concern. “Uh, no,” I responded, trying to keep my emotions in check. But their surprised expressions said it all – “Really? Really?” they asked, clearly taken aback by my response.
Understood Terry, it can be challenging to balance being a bustling plastic surgeon, providing for one’s family, and then having to tell one’s children, “Yes, it’s acceptable for others, but not for you.” This is a difficult situation.
Which is why he doesn’t phrase it like that, exactly.
Instead, the self-described “accepting, permissive father,” urges his kids to dig deep.
Terry explained, “When Heather and I approach a topic, we say something like, ‘Alright, let’s discuss that.’ However, the kids often respond with, ‘It looks like Mom and Dad are making us chat about it now.’
Terry clarified that their response, “‘Yes, let’s discuss it,'” is elicited due to a desire to prevent any future regrets. They don’t want the person to take an action now that they might later regret and ask themselves why they didn’t guide them towards resolving the issue.
66-year-old, working with Kim Zolciak, Aubrey O’Day, 90 Day Fiancé’s Larissa Santos Lima, and other frequent plastic surgery patients aiming for a more natural appearance on the show TopMob’s “Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind”, engage in discussions.
Terry expressed that he is receptive to his children implementing suitable adjustments. If they were to have an issue like a crooked nose, he would inquire, “Of course, but what are your expectations or goals?
Because it’s important to him to sniff out any potential issues.
In my experience, I’ve found them to be incredibly approachable conversationalists, much like myself. Over the course of our shared journey spanning 26 years, my partner and I have strived to create an open platform, aimed at providing guidance on nurturing children with kindness and understanding.
The TL;DR version, he detailed, is to not be a jerk.
The specific field he specializes in is discussions surrounding the sexual orientations of his children. For instance, Max has come out as bisexual, Kat revealed she’s gay, while Ace identifies as transgender. However, the guidance he offers can be applicable to any profound parent-child conversations about similar topics.
The reality TV expert suggested acting as if you’re constantly being watched, and knowing that your actions will be judged, when dealing with serious matters. This, he claimed, would instantly eliminate any arrogance or thoughtless behavior you may have been harboring.
In my commitment, I emphasize: Create for your children a nurturing, affectionate setting. This is where their journey towards growth and love should begin.
For Terry, that means serving as a solid sounding board.
He emphasized that, despite personal beliefs or assumptions, the focus should be on the children, who come from a diverse background distinct from one’s own upbringing, when discussing his support for “his colorful brood.
To put it simply, he underscored that we’re all aware of what’s best for our children, and how to behave towards them accordingly.
And he’s thrilled for the opportunity to model that behavior.
Terry elaborated, “If we can demonstrate what a caring, accepting family looks like, we strive to serve as examples for such discussions. That’s the role we’ve been given, and we feel privileged and thankful for it.
Perhaps he joked, “Would I rather be selected to become a philanthropist, similar to Bill Gates, who builds hospitals globally, combats diseases, and travels on a Boeing business jet? Possibly. However, that’s not the path that life has paved for me.
Without joking around, Terry expressed his excitement about the opportunity to correct more than mere cosmetic flaws, such as botched nose jobs and breast augmentations.
Through his eight seasons on the show “Botched” and Heather’s stint as a Bravo housewife, Terry pointed out, “We have this platform,” he said, “and by openly embracing and encouraging them in public, which is exactly what we do, I hope it conveys a message of acceptance and support to others.
After moving from their home in Newport Beach, which is approximately 50 miles north to Beverly Hills, Terry remarked, “This location seems more suitable for my children.” He pointed out that the rainbow appears more vibrant here compared to what he’s used to in Orange County.
And these days their life together really is sunshine and rainbows.
Terry firmly believed he was exactly where he should be, at the perfect moment, and he attributed this to his amazing partner and confidante, Heather Dubrow. As a team, they had crafted quite an extraordinary tale, which I invite you to explore by delving into their joint experiences. Here are some key moments from their shared journey.
Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind premieres tonight, July 9, at 10 p.m. on TopMob.
From The Dubrow Family, which includes Heather Dubrow, Terry Dubrow, Max, Nick, Kat, and Ace, a warm greeting for Thanksgiving! We’re truly thankful to celebrate this holiday with each other in good health and high spirits. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season ahead! And a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us – we are eternally grateful for your kindness and love!
“What would we do without you @drdubrow,” Heather posted. “Love you beyond.”
As a lifestyle expert, I recently found myself reflecting on the swift passage of time. With two children just wrapping up their sophomore year in college, another gearing up for college applications, and one nearing the end of middle school, I can’t help but wonder where the years have gone!
To add to this whirlwind of emotions, my mother paid a visit this month and brought along a treasure trove of childhood photos. It was an absolute delight to share those memories with my kids, comparing their youthful faces to mine at similar ages. The experience brought home just how quickly time flies and the joy of seeing the remarkable resemblances between us all.
The family of six celebrate the holidays in matching pajamas.
Wow, what an enchanting Christmas Eve! Shared by The Real Housewives of Orange County star, the evening featured a delightful (yet lengthy) dinner at bevhillshotel. The night continued with joy at home, complete with matching pajamas, reindeer food, and secret Santa gifts! Wishing you all the most wonderful things this holiday season, and may your holidays be filled with loveliness and tranquility.
Heather celebrates Mother’s Day with some throwback photos.
Heather shared on Instagram, “What a delightful moment we had with everyone together! It was such a relief when the kids came back home. I couldn’t stand the early morning goodbyes with Max Dubrow and Drip God Vincent yesterday. Now, they are all back at school for the 2nd semester. I feel a mix of sadness and happiness about it – sad because they left, but happy to see them grow independent and find their own paths.
Heather and Max get goofy in a photo booth over the holidays.
“Late night kitchen shenanigans with my babies … I love when everyone is home.”
Heather shares a beachy pic from when the kids were little.
Kat joins her mom on a 2022 episode of RHOC.
