Eva LaRue is detailing a harrowing chapter in her life.
Almost twenty years after receiving unsettling letters that eventually turned into twelve years of harassment from a fan who became a stalker, the actress from CSI: Miami has spoken about how deeply the experience affected her and the challenges she faced afterward.
LaRue described the experience as completely overwhelming, saying it fundamentally changed how she navigates life. She explained in a November 11th interview with CBS Mornings that it’s impossible to return to a state of naiveté. Someone once asked if she could simply move on, but she replied that your brain never stops being on high alert.
Prosecutors revealed that between 2007 and 2015, before James David Rogers began leaving voicemails in 2019, he sent messages signed with the name “Freddy Krueger” – the notorious killer from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.
LaRue and her daughter, Kaya McKenna Callahan, who is now 23 and whom she shares with her former husband, John Callahan, had to move and start over in new places several times.
The man explained they had moved homes twice. Eventually, he tracked down her high school and called, pretending to be her father. He told her to wait outside, saying he would come pick her up.
Eva LaRue, who will share her experiences in the upcoming docuseries My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story on November 13th, described the physical impact the stalking had on her.
It was terrifying. I remember losing my eyelashes, and breaking out in hives everywhere. The worst part wasn’t even the physical stuff, though. It was the constant fear, the feeling like I was trapped. I was always trying to anticipate his next move, but it felt impossible because there were just so many possibilities. It was like building my own prison with worry, constantly looking over my shoulder, and there was nowhere to feel safe.
In the Paramount+ docuseries, LaRue described her experience and called the letters she received “absolute psychological terrorism,” as shown in the trailer.
She continued, explaining that her biggest fear was that the things he wrote in the letters were actually true. The letters were arriving very quickly and frequently.

Callahan described how difficult it was to work with this person, explaining, “It felt like he was everywhere and nowhere at the same time – a fleeting presence I could never quite grasp.”
As a lifestyle expert focused on safety and well-being, I’m sharing some deeply disturbing details that came to light in 2022 regarding a case handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The letters sent by the defendant contained horrific threats against both LaRue and Callahan – he didn’t just threaten their lives, but explicitly detailed plans for sexual assault before murder. One letter was particularly chilling, stating a vow to stalk them relentlessly for the rest of their lives. It’s a stark reminder of the extreme dangers of stalking and the importance of taking all threats seriously.
In 2022, Rodgers received a prison sentence of over three years for a twelve-year pattern of harassment and stalking towards LaRue and Callahan.
The 61-year-old, now released, admitted to sending threatening messages through the mail and over state lines, as well as stalking two people, according to officials.

In December 1996, six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was tragically murdered in her Colorado home. Despite investigations focusing on her family and others, the case remains unsolved and her killer has never been identified.

O.J. Simpson, who passed away in April 2024 after fighting cancer, was held responsible for the 1994 murders in a civil court, but he was found not guilty in the criminal trial. Legally, this means he wasn’t convicted, and the person who committed the murders remains unidentified.

Some people believe Tupac Shakur is still alive, but the rapper, known for his song “Changes,” was actually killed in 1996. The case remains unsolved.

As a lifelong fan, it still breaks my heart to think about Biggie Smalls. Just a year and a half after losing Tupac, he was tragically shot and killed in a drive-by. What’s even more frustrating is that, to this day, nobody has ever been brought to justice for his murder – his killer is still out there.

The trial of Casey Anthony, Caylee’s mother, received a lot of media attention, but she was found not guilty of murdering her daughter. Because of the verdict, the question of who killed Caylee remains unanswered.

Elizabeth Short, who was killed in 1947, quickly became famous due to the mystery surrounding her death. Though she was later nicknamed “The Black Dahlia,” her murderer has never been found.

In 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered with an axe, but their daughter, Lizzie Borden, was put on trial for the crime and found not guilty. The case remains unsolved to this day.

Okay, so, this is totally consuming me, but back in 1888, this terrifying killer started stalking the streets of London. And honestly? More than a century later, we still don’t know who Jack the Ripper was! It’s just… haunting. I’ve read everything, and the mystery just gets deeper. It’s incredible and terrifying all at once.

In 1982, Chicago experienced a series of tragic deaths caused by poisoned Tylenol capsules. Someone tampered with the over-the-counter pain reliever, lacing it with potassium cyanide, and seven people died, including children. Several other deaths followed in similar, copycat incidents. To this day, the person responsible for the original poisonings has never been identified.

The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer active in Northern California from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, and his true identity is still a mystery. He became known as the “Zodiac” after sending mocking letters to newspapers in the Bay Area. These letters included four coded messages, but only one has been successfully deciphered.
