Star Wars Reveals 3 New Characters Debuting in Its Next Movie

Star Wars has revealed three new characters who will appear in its upcoming movie. After a seven-year run as a popular series on Disney+, The Mandalorian and Grogu are coming to theaters in 2026. This will be the first Star Wars film released in theaters this decade, and director Jon Favreau is bringing the world and characters of the acclaimed Disney+ series to the big screen.

To build excitement for the upcoming Mando movie, Lucasfilm has revealed the names of three new characters. In an update on the official The Mandalorian & Grogu page on StarWars.com, the company announced the Anzellans—who were briefly shown in the movie’s first trailer—will be called Bai, Clang, and Keeto.

A new image from the movie shows three small characters nestled inside Grogu’s stroller on a desert planet.

The official Star Wars website revealed the names of new characters – Bai, Clang, Keeto, and Grogu – who will appear in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to release in theaters on May 22, 2026.

The Anzellan species was introduced in The Rise of Skywalker through the popular character Babu Frik. Babu is a spice runner from the planet Kijimi who helps Rey, Poe, and Finn extract crucial data from C-3PO.

We saw these droids again in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, where Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) hired Anzellan droid experts to repair the damaged IG-11. It’s currently unknown if Bai, Clang, and Keeto are the same droids from the Mandalorian series, or if they are different characters altogether.

The first trailer for Mandalorian & Grogu features brief appearances by Anzellans. We see them helping Grogu navigate what looks like a drainage system, and later, traveling quickly across a sandy terrain – a scene this new image comes from.

How Will The Anzellans Play into The Mando Movie?

More actors are joining the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, with Bai, Clang, and Keeto recently announced as the newest members of the show.

Three characters from the Anzellan species might be important in the next film. As demonstrated in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, these talented droid builders were crucial in creating the new, strong battle armor for IG-11, which Grogu is now able to operate.

After appearing in the Disney+ series, Grogu’s recent look seemed likely to become his standard appearance. It wouldn’t be surprising, then, to see the Anzellans join Din Djarin and Grogu on their travels, acting as skilled mechanics and providing support.

This opens the possibility of Din seeking help from the Anzellans to fix Grogu’s suit, and also introduces a new and interesting group of characters who will join him on his journey through space.

Since we haven’t seen the IG-11-style armor in any promotional materials for the movie, it’s possible that design was scrapped. These Anzellan characters might just be a fun appearance for fans of Star Wars aliens. You can learn more about the different alien races in The Mandalorian & Grogu here.
