The recent film, Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, continues to surprise audiences with its intense battle between Denji and the Bomb Devil, a fight that takes a huge physical and emotional toll on him. While the anime is gaining popularity, the original manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto is also progressing, developing storylines that will likely be adapted for animation. In a surprising turn of events, Asa Mikata, known as the War Devil, has created what could be her most powerful creation, and this has severely impacted both the Chainsaw Devil and the United States.
Please be aware that the following discusses major spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter 220. The story is currently split between two main characters, Denji and Asa, who often switch between being allies and enemies. With the War Devil trying to erase the idea of death to ensure endless conflict, Denji is working to stop her. Asa has a history of creating unusual weapons, but the latest chapter features her most ambitious creation yet: the “Michigan Sword.” She has literally transformed the entire state of Michigan into a weapon, which is one of the most significant and shocking moments in the manga so far. You can see a panel depicting this below.

The War Devil Reigns Supreme
It will likely be a while before we see the exciting events from later in the story animated. Chapter 220 happens far after the Bomb Devil’s introduction, and the anime may need several more seasons or even movies to catch up to the manga. Currently, it’s unclear whether MAPPA will continue with another movie or a second season of the anime. However, no matter what they decide, fans can expect the eventual animation to be visually stunning and action-packed.
As a huge fan, I’ve been following the recent chapters of Chainsaw Man with a mix of excitement and, honestly, a little bit of worry! Fujimoto-sensei has been throwing in some really bold depictions of the United States – the changes to Michigan were a shocker, and remember when the Statue of Liberty showed up? It’s not just visuals either – having the “Star Spangled Banner” play during that scene was… intense. It makes you wonder how much of this will make it into the anime without being altered. The first season did have some differences from the manga, so MAPPA clearly isn’t afraid to make adjustments. They’ve got time, though, and I’m really curious to see how they’ll handle this really sharp social commentary when they adapt these chapters.
