Square Enix just revealed a new trailer, details, and images for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. The update showcases a new story arc focusing on a grown-up Kiefer, and explains that players will gather pieces of shattered stone tablets to unlock more of the game’s world.
Get the details below.
■ Discover a New Storyline Featuring Kiefer as an Adult!
The updated version of Dragon Quest VII, called Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, will be available worldwide on February 5, 2026. It keeps the heart of the original game but offers a smoother experience and more in-depth character stories. Players can also look forward to brand new adventures, including a storyline where they meet and team up with an adult Kiefer!

While traveling through the past in the Rucker region, the main character unexpectedly runs into Kiefer, his close friend, who appears much older.

The group quietly enters Rucker Castle under the cover of night to assist Kiefer with his problems. Be careful not to be seen by the guards!

Kiefer has become a much stronger ally and will help you in fights with useful items and abilities. Hopefully, you’ll be able to team up with him again, even after you leave the Rucker region.

■ Collect Fragments to Complete the Stone Tablets and Keep Expanding the World!
In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, you’ll find pieces of broken stone tablets. Putting these pieces together like a puzzle unlocks new areas to explore. Each area has its own challenges, and solving them adds those locations to the world, giving you even more places to discover. Find the tablet fragments and expand the world!
Okay, so there’s this shrine back in my village, and it’s got a bunch of stands. I figured out I need to put the pieces of this stone tablet on the stands that match their color. Seems pretty straightforward, but I bet it’s part of something bigger!

After you finish with one stone tablet, it will send you to a new place with a new challenge to overcome.

You can find pieces of stone tablets in towns, dungeons, or by defeating tough enemies.

Okay, so I finally figured out the puzzle at the stone tablet, and it was wild. It didn’t just open a door or anything – it totally changed the world around me! Seriously, new islands just popped up out of the ocean, like they weren’t even there before. It was a crazy, awesome moment.
