Elden Ring Nightreign, a standout action RPG released in 2025 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, took a daring new direction for the creators of the 2022 Game of the Year, Elden Ring. This spin-off transformed the original’s challenging gameplay into a co-op roguelike experience. Since its release, the game has received major updates, including new, rotating versions of bosses and an even more difficult hard mode for those seeking a greater challenge.
As a researcher following this game, we’ve anticipated a large expansion since launch. I’m excited to share that a recent announcement finally revealed its name, the details of what it will include, and the release date, meaning players will soon be able to explore the content, ride the spectral hawk, and return to Limveld themselves.
The new expansion, called The Forsaken Hollows, will be available on all Elden Ring Nightreign platforms on December 4, 2025 – just under a month from now. This information, and more, was shared in a recently released gameplay trailer, which you can view here.
The Forsaken Hollows update introduces two new character classes, the Nightfarers, and two challenging new bosses for Expeditions. Players will also discover several new areas to explore thanks to the randomized map feature in Nightreign. The trailer offers a sneak peek at these features, and even more content that’s coming soon.
The new Nightreign DLC will include enemies and a boss from Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, as evidenced by battles against a Fire Knight and the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. This addition will greatly improve the variety of random encounters in the game, something it really needs.
The trailer features Artorias the Abysswalker, a beloved character from the ‘Artorias of the Abyss’ DLC for the original Dark Souls game released in 2011. Longtime fans of FromSoftware will remember him as a key character and challenging boss.
The trailer features Artorias the Abysswalker, a popular character and boss from the ‘Artorias of the Abyss’ DLC for the original Dark Souls game. He’s joining other returning bosses in Nightreign, and will probably be a Night boss like them. Hopefully, the developers have made him stronger and faster to match the quicker movements of the Nightfarers compared to the original game’s player character.
We also got a good look at the two new Nightfarers. One is a female fighter who enhances her defenses before powerfully striking enemies with a mace. The other is a male character dressed in robes, fighting with a rapier and a magical book that can freeze opponents in place.
We also got a quick look at the two main bosses coming in the DLC, which appear to be called Dreglords, not Nightlords. The first boss is a group of heavily armored women in white armor, wielding polearms that seem to deal holy damage. The second looks like a massive beast covered in bones and debris, and it uses the Scarlet Rot ability. You might want to stock up on Preserving Boluses before facing it!

The trailer’s description gives a basic idea of where these new enemies come from: they appear to be undead creatures created from the bodies of those who fell during battles against the Nightlords.
The text states: ‘Every fight against the Night has left its mark. These aren’t just injuries, but wounds given a dark purpose – a twisted life created from lost spirits. Nightfarers, prepare yourselves – we must finish this hunt.’
I’m really excited about The Forsaken Hollows – everything looks amazing! I can’t wait to return to Nightreign with my friends and try out the new Nightfarers, as well as battle all the new enemies and bosses. You can get the expansion for $15 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 – it’s available as either downloadable content or a Deluxe Edition upgrade.
If you purchased the $55 Deluxe Edition of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll immediately be able to play the new content when it launches. This edition is currently on sale for $44.89 on Xbox and $48.99 on PC at Loaded. For anyone new to Shadow of the Erdtree, buying the Deluxe Edition on sale is the most cost-effective way to get everything from both the main game and the expansion.
