Toy Story 5 trailer sees Woody and co face high-tech terror as “age of toys is over”

Disney has revealed a new nemesis for the original toys in the first trailer for Toy Story 5.

The film introduces a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee, known as Lilypad.

The latest trailer reveals Woody, Buzz, and their friends are horrified as Bonnie, now eight years old, opens the box of a new toy named Lilypad.

If Bonnie becomes totally focused on her new toy, what will happen to Woody and the rest of her old friends? The preview suggests a big question: are they about to become obsolete?

In a recent statement, directors Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris shared their excitement about the new project. They described it as a funny and touching exploration of how the beloved characters from the original toys would navigate today’s tech-driven world, and they were happy to finally offer fans a first look.

We were thrilled to have the incredibly talented Greta Lee play Lilypad. She perfectly captured the character’s playful, sometimes challenging personality with both humor and genuine emotion.

Tom Hanks reprises his role as Woody, the beloved cowboy, while Joan Cusack returns as the spirited cowgirl Jessie, and Tim Allen is back as the space ranger Buzz Lightyear.

Conan O’Brien will also join the cast as the toilet training tech toy, Smarty Pants.

The movie, which blends toys and technology, was first revealed at Disney’s D23 event in California last August.

At the D23 Expo, director Andrew Stanton announced that Toy Story 5 will explore a new theme for the series: kids’ fascination with modern technology like smartphones and tablets.

These characters offer a fresh look at what it’s like to grow up and figure things out. Throughout the Toy Story movies, the toys’ most important role has always been to support their children.

He explained that Toy Story 5 will present a new challenge for the toys: competing with the popularity of modern electronics, which kids are much more interested in these days.

Let’s face it, kids have a lot of digital distractions these days – phones, tablets, and other tech. So, this new wave of toys combines the fun of traditional play with technology.
