As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve been really impressed with what Apple TV+ has been doing lately. They’ve been steadily building a strong collection of shows that can go toe-to-toe with the best on Netflix and HBO – things like Severance and the new show Pluribus are genuinely thought-provoking. But honestly, there’s one series in particular that feels like it could become a true sci-fi classic, something people will still be talking about years from now.
Rebecca Ferguson not only stars in but also produces Silo, the Apple TV+ series based on Hugh Howey’s popular novels. After two exciting seasons covering the beginning of the story, Silo is set to become a complete sci-fi epic for Apple TV+. With two more seasons already being filmed and plenty of source material from the books, viewers can expect a satisfying conclusion – making the journey into this post-apocalyptic world well worth it.
Apple TV’s Silo and the Successes So Far

Premiering in 2023, Silo is a series created by Graham Yost, the talent behind Justified and The Americans. The show depicts a future where the last of humanity lives in a massive underground bunker. It slowly reveals the secrets of this world: what led people to live in the silo, and who built it? Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who unexpectedly becomes sheriff after the previous one dies under strange circumstances. Critics have lauded the show’s impressive visuals, strong writing, compelling performances from a talented cast including Common, Rashida Jones, and Tim Robbins, and its captivating, deliberately paced storyline.
The second season of Silo not only avoided the typical sophomore slump, it actually surpassed the first, delivering a more captivating story. With a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the new season expertly built suspense through carefully revealed clues and surprising twists, keeping audiences engaged. Rebecca Ferguson continued to deliver a strong, central performance, and newcomer Steve Zahn stood out as the enigmatic Solo. While it didn’t generate quite as much hype as shows like Severance, the critical acclaim and dedicated fanbase of Silo Season 2 convinced Apple TV to order another season.
All Signs Point Towards a Great Ending For Silo

Just because a show has a strong start doesn’t guarantee it will be amazing, but the renewal of Silo for two more seasons is a good sign – and they’re filming them together right now! Even more promising is that Apple plans to end the series after Season 4, so we can be confident the story will have a proper conclusion and won’t be unnecessarily extended just to make more money.
What makes Silo stand out from many science fiction shows is its strong source material. The series is based on Hugh Howey’s Silo trilogy – Wool, Shift, and Dust – which began as a self-published story in 2011 and became a worldwide bestseller. Howey’s books were praised for their detailed world, well-developed characters, and, importantly, a complete and satisfying ending. This is rare for high-quality sci-fi; many shows like Firefly are cancelled too soon, others like Lost drag on without a clear ending, and some, such as Westworld, simply lose direction. Apple TV’s approach with Silo seems to have avoided these problems by starting with a solid foundation and a planned conclusion.
It’s unclear how closely the show will stick to the books, but Season 3 will cover the events of Shift, and Season 4 will adapt the final book, Dust. Many fans and critics believe Dust offers a satisfying conclusion that fully explains the story’s central mystery. If the series follows this general path, Apple TV+ has the potential to deliver a complete and well-structured narrative. With careful direction from showrunner Rebecca Yost, a strong lead performance by Rebecca Ferguson, and the popular books by Hugh Howey as its foundation, Silo has the potential to be truly memorable.
