Cinema has a long and fascinating history, filled with movies that make us laugh, cry, and feel thrilled. In recent years, Netflix has become a major player in the film world, evolving from a platform for existing movies to a creator of new ones. Recently, they partnered with a renowned director to reimagine a classic science fiction story with today’s technology. The resulting film was released in theaters and on Netflix, proving to be a big hit and a successful addition to the streaming service’s catalog.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a standout film from the director known for movies like Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and The Shape of Water. Because of del Toro’s passion for the story and his filmmaking talent, the movie received a “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and quickly became popular on Netflix. Between November 3rd and 9th, it was viewed over twenty-nine million times, totaling more than seventy-three million hours of watch time. Although a sequel isn’t planned, this definitely won’t be the last we see of either Frankenstein’s monster or Guillermo del Toro.
The Future of Frankenstein

Though Guillermo del Toro’s project is finished, fans won’t have to wait long for a new take on Frankenstein and his bride. The Bride!, set to release in theaters next March, reimagines the classic story in 1930s Chicago. Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale star as the Bride of Frankenstein and the monster, and Maggie Gyllenhaal directs, promising a fresh and unique approach to the beloved franchise. Del Toro is not involved in this new film.
Guillermo del Toro has several exciting projects in the works after his recent film. He’s teaming up with Oscar Isaac again for a new, original movie described as intense and brutal. He’s also planning another stop-motion animated film, this time based on the novel The Buried Giant, which is set in the world of King Arthur. The story follows a couple trying to uncover lost memories about their past and their son. Given del Toro’s dedication to filmmaking, these upcoming projects are sure to be made with the same passion and artistry as his previous work.
