Adele is saying hello from the other side—of Hollywood.
The Grammy-winning artist is starting a new chapter by making her first appearance in a movie. She’ll be starring in the upcoming film Cry to Heaven, directed by Tom Ford, alongside Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Owen Cooper, who recently gained recognition for his role in Adolescence and won an Emmy.
Tom Ford, the fashion designer, is directing a new film based on the novel by Anne Rice. The story centers on Guido Maffeo, a commoner, and Tonio Treschi, his student who is the last surviving member of a once-noble family.
This historical novel is set in the 1700s and features two male opera singers who were both castrated as boys to maintain their high vocal ranges. Guido, one of the singers, loses his voice when he reaches adulthood and begins teaching Tonio, a remarkably talented young singer. However, as Tonio matures, he becomes resentful of the life he was forced into and seeks revenge on his father, Carlo, who had him castrated at age fifteen.
Tom Ford’s new film, Cry to Heaven, is his first project since 2016’s Nocturnal Animals, which starred Amy Adams. The movie will feature Hunter Schafer of Euphoria, along with established actors Colin Firth, Ciarán Hinds, and Pedro Pascal’s sister, Lux Pascal, among others. Although Ford only has two directed films to his name – his debut was 2009’s A Single Man – the 64-year-old fashion designer has stated he’s committed to transitioning fully into filmmaking.
In a 2023 interview with GQ, he explained his desire to dedicate the next two decades to filmmaking. He felt time was passing quickly and decided to leave the fashion industry, stating it was better suited for younger people.
Although this is Adele’s first time acting, she’s mentioned before that she’d like to appear in a movie.

I’m absolutely dying for one particular role, but the writer – the person whose story it is – isn’t in the right headspace to work on the script yet. I’m keeping the details under wraps for now, but I do check in with him occasionally, hoping he’ll feel ready. Honestly, it’s the only role I really want. I just know I’d be perfect for it, and I’m confident I could absolutely kill it.
I’ve been following the buzz about whether Adele was referencing a certain film director, but she hasn’t confirmed anything just yet. What she did share at the time was a role she’d absolutely never take on, even though she’s incredibly talented – it was fascinating to hear what didn’t appeal to her!
She said she often receives offers to make movies about singers, but she avoids them. She feels these roles are too predictable, and portraying someone famous enough for a biopic is a risky undertaking. She also worries about sounding like herself instead of the person she’s playing if she were asked to do the singing. Ultimately, those are the only kinds of roles she’s been offered.

Apparently, The Grabber isn’t really gone – he’s coming after Finn (that amazing Mason Thames!) through his little sister. I’m already terrified and SO excited!
