Even though HBO is planning a new Harry Potter series, the original movies and actors are still incredibly popular. These films are really what built the Harry Potter franchise into the huge global success it is today – they’re the foundation for the theme parks, studio tours, and all the wizard-themed shops you can find worldwide. Many fans will always associate Daniel Radcliffe with the role of Harry, and the same is true for much of the original cast. Interestingly, only one actor has revisited their character in a significant way years later.
Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, has returned to the Wizarding World! He recently joined the Broadway cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and made his first appearance as Draco Malfoy in 14 years this week. The audience at the Lyric Theater in New York gave him a long and enthusiastic standing ovation before he even spoke his first line – a request to Harry Potter: “I need a favor.” The warm reception proves how much fans still love the movies and the actors, bringing back many fond memories.

Will Other Original Harry Potter Actors Return?

Felton’s return to the Harry Potter world is the most significant yet from any of the original actors, but he isn’t the only one revisiting the franchise. James and Oliver Phelps, known for playing Fred and George Weasley, now host the TV show Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking. Additionally, Warwick Davies, who portrayed both Griphook and Professor Flitwick, will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick in the upcoming HBO remake, making him the only actor confirmed to return for that project so far.
Considering how Felton recently returned for a stage production, it’s possible we might see other original cast members make brief appearances on Broadway. However, it’s highly unlikely that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, or Emma Watson would participate. While they’ll always be associated with Harry Potter, they’ve expressed interest in pursuing other acting roles – Radcliffe has even stated he wouldn’t reprise his role in a potential remake – so their return would be a genuine surprise.
Look, if Warner Bros. ever decided to turn Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a movie, that would be a pretty safe bet, honestly. The nostalgia alone would probably guarantee a huge audience. I don’t think it’ll happen now that they’re doing a TV show, but as a lifelong movie fan, I’ve learned never to say never with these big franchises. You just never know!
Tom Felton is performing in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway through May 10th, 2026. You can watch the Harry Potter films on HBO Max.
