It’s rare for a movie series that started in the 1960s to still be strong and connect with modern audiences. It’s especially challenging when a new film follows a particularly popular and well-regarded set of movies, like the last trilogy in the Planet of the Apes series. However, the newest Planet of the Apes film managed to do just that, and now it’s available to stream on HBO Max, letting even more people experience it.
The latest Planet of the Apes movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is now streaming on HBO Max after being a Hulu exclusive. As the tenth film in the series, it surprisingly ranks among the best, and many fans agree it exceeds expectations.
The recent Planet of the Apes films, especially the two directed by Matt Reeves, dramatically reshaped the series and raised the bar for how franchises are made. So, it felt risky to continue the story so quickly. However, Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes turned out to be a strong continuation of the films centered around Caesar, even if it wasn’t quite as exceptional as the previous two installments.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes builds on the foundation laid by the original 1968 film, offering a deeper look into a fully developed ape civilization shaped by Caesar’s legacy. The movie earned close to $400 million worldwide, making it a very successful start to a new chapter in the series.

Okay, so I was compiling a list of movies I’ve either seen or want to check out, and it’s a pretty eclectic mix! It starts with some really wild stuff like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, then jumps into classics like A Christmas Carol (the 1938 version, naturally!) and A Christmas Story. There’s a bit of everything – dramas like A United Kingdom and The Postman Always Rings Twice, film noir with The Mask of Dimitrios and Out of the Past, and even some action with Kingsman: The Golden Circle. I’m a sucker for old Hollywood, so you’ll see titles like The Women (from 1939) and The Public Enemy in there. Plus, I have a soft spot for creature features, hence The Wolfman and Bride of Frankenstein. I even threw in some more modern stuff like Hellboy and Puss In Boots, and a random season of The Kitchen from the Food Network because, why not? It’s a long list, but it reflects my taste – a little bit of everything, from serious dramas to cheesy fun!
