Asus recently announced strong initial sales for its ROG Ally handheld gaming PCs in its quarterly earnings report. According to CFO Nick Wu (as reported by WCCFTech), customers have responded well to the ROG Ally, including the newest models co-created with Xbox.
When talking about the original ROG Ally launch, Wu noted the handheld gaming market has expanded significantly. He also pointed out that Microsoft is now paying more attention to this area, particularly with recent Windows improvements.
During a recent investor call, Wu explained that the original ROG Ally, launched two to three years ago, was a first-of-its-kind device. He stated that this new type of handheld gaming PC, particularly on Windows, has become very popular. ASUS feels it has successfully established the ROG Ally as a high-end product and a source of growth within the gaming market.
Regarding the recent release of the ROG Ally and Ally X, Asus’s Wu discussed the positive reception to the collaboration with Xbox. He observed growing interest in higher-end gaming devices and confirmed Asus is addressing supply chain issues by working closely with component suppliers to meet customer demand.
As Wu explained, we released the new ROG Ally last month, and it’s been a hit. We worked closely with Xbox on this version, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, especially for the more expensive, high-end models, which are proving more popular than we anticipated.
Currently, the more powerful versions of the device are hard to find. We’re working directly with our parts suppliers to increase production and meet the current high demand. The ROG Ally is a key part of Asus’s gaming lineup, and we expect it to significantly contribute to the company’s revenue and profits.
The Asus ROG Ally and Ally X were released globally last month. The Ally costs $599.99, and the more powerful Ally X is priced higher at $999.99. Shortly after the launch, Xbox president Sarah Bond discussed how Xbox collaborated with Asus to determine these prices.
We wanted to give people a variety of choices, and Asus was key to that because they handle the hardware. Their understanding of the market, desired features, and what customers are willing to pay ultimately decided the device prices, as Bond explained.
