2025 was a challenging year for Disney, with few successes until November. Things began to improve with the release of Predator: Badlands (from 20th Century Studios), which received positive reviews and had a record-breaking opening weekend – a much-needed win for Disney. The positive momentum is expected to continue with the release of Zootopia 2 over Thanksgiving, as the sequel to the billion-dollar hit is predicted to perform strongly, and early reactions suggest even higher potential.
Critics have now seen Zootopia 2, and early reactions are appearing online. Like the first Zootopia movie, it’s being praised for successfully combining fun, playful moments with a surprisingly heartfelt and mature story. You can find some initial reactions below.
I absolutely loved watching #Zootopia2! I might even like it better than the original. It’s delightfully wild, packed with funny animal jokes, but also a really heartwarming story about being brave enough to tell people how much they mean to you.

I really enjoyed Zootopia 2! It’s a sweet movie about love, friendship, and wanting to prove your worth, and it still makes me wonder why I’m rooting for a fox and a bunny to be together – but in a good way!

Zootopia 2 is just as enjoyable as the first movie! It keeps the same exciting, fast-paced action and hilarious animal-related jokes. The story feels relevant to today’s world and explores themes that many people can connect with. The humor is also a step up – it’s clever and has a bit of an edge. I really had a great time watching it, and don’t forget to stick around after the credits!

Zootopia 2 is a fantastic sequel! The mystery is captivating, but what really stood out was its depth – Jared Bush and Byron Howard cleverly wove relevant social issues into a hilarious, heartwarming, and visually stunning adventure. Plus, Michael Giacchino’s music is incredible.

Zootopia 2 is a really fun movie! It builds on the original world of Zootopia, and it’s great to see Nick and Judy back together as partners, navigating their relationship while solving a new case. Expect plenty of action, lovable characters, and a catchy new song by Shakira. It’s a funny and heartwarming adventure the whole family will enjoy.

Zootopia 2 feels like a natural and delightful continuation of the first movie. It’s funny, the characters are well-developed, and the world feels even more vibrant. It’s a smart and hilarious sequel with some fantastic new characters – Gary De’Snake is a particular standout!

Zootopia 2 is fantastic! It’s clever, imaginative, hilarious, and beautifully animated—plus, it’s surprisingly heartwarming. Ke Huy Quan deserves another award! It might even give K-pop a run for its money at the Oscars for animated features.

Can Zootopia 2 Win the Best Animated Feature Oscar?
Recent reactions to The Running Man‘s ratings showed that a lot of buzz on social media doesn’t always mean a movie will get great reviews. However, early word about Zootopia 2 suggests it’s likely to be a critical success. Initial reactions are very positive, indicating the sequel lives up to the high quality of the original. Disney’s animated sequels haven’t always been winners – Moana 2, for example, received mixed reviews and wasn’t as well-received as the first Moana. While we’re still waiting for complete reviews, Zootopia 2 appears to be heading for a much better reception.
Early reactions to Zootopia 2 suggest it’s a hit, raising the question of whether it could win the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Disney hasn’t even been nominated in this category since Encanto in 2021, so a nomination for Zootopia 2 is highly probable. However, winning will be tougher. Historically, only two sequels – Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 – have ever won the award. While this isn’t the most competitive year for animated features, Kpop Demon Hunters, a popular Netflix film, is expected to be a strong contender. Zootopia 2 might face a similar fate to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, receiving praise but ultimately falling short of the win.
I’m so excited for Zootopia 2! Disney is definitely going to push hard for awards, but honestly, what they really want is a big box office success. The initial numbers look amazing – they were predicting over $125 million domestically in its first five days, which would make it a huge hit over Thanksgiving! And with everyone talking about how good it is, I think those numbers could even go higher. We’ve already seen a few movies this year surprise everyone and do really well, and it’s usually because critics and audiences both love them. It’s true Wicked: For Good is going to be competition – it’s already breaking pre-sale records – but I think Zootopia 2 will be a massive draw for families during the holidays.
Disney is hoping to finish 2025 strong after a challenging year for some of its brands. Following the release of Zootopia 2, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to be a major hit and potentially the highest-grossing film of the year. While Pixar and Marvel have faced difficulties, these new releases offer some positive momentum. Although films like Predator: Badlands and Zootopia 2 don’t solve all of Disney’s problems, they provide a bit of relief, and the company is optimistic about a big 2026.
